I don't know about most healthy, but is healthy. The Japanese live longer and the people from Okinawa specifically living the longest. However, there are lots of similarities between the diets. Less refined grains, plenty of vegetables, low sugar, and moderate fish and meat intake.
I think most of the current data/research about dieting indicate that we should focus on two main things for our health. Insulin regulation and inflammation. Insulin is what makes you fat, so you should eat foods that have lower glycemic loads. Inflammation has been linked to everything from heart disease, to cancer to Alzheimer's disease. There are lots of things that cause inflammation but the highest are processed foods including processed grain product. Vegetables are the only foods that consistently check all the health food boxes, so if you try to make vegetables 75 percent of your diet, you should be good to go. The Tom Brady diet tries to address both of these things though I think his diet is way to strict for a normal American.
Insulation? You mean that stuff in my attic that keeps my house warm in the winter and cold in the summer? Processed foods are certainly not healthy, hell, processed meats (cold cuts, hot dogs, sausage, bacon etc) are considered carcinogens by the world health organization... but look up the chemicals created when meat is cooked. It’s loaded with inflammatory chemicals...it’s no wonder we lead the world in cardiovascular disease and probably other diseases that we thought may be caused by other factors (Alzheimer’s, etc). Who knows...
MFP is great, especially since it syncs up with the other UnderArmour apps (MapMyRun, MapMyWalk etc). Plus it sends you a $40 off $100 UA coupon every once in a while, which is nice for gym clothes and shoes. Without knowing your body weight, 1500-1750 cals a day sounds solid for weight loss. Are you hitting the gym too for cardio/weights or strictly losing weight from diet?
I eat it about once or twice a week. I can't think of any food better than sushi, sashimi, and all that stuff. I've heard of those parasites but that's not common at nice sushi places. I avoid the "spicy" fish too because that's the ground up bad stuff. Escolar also is good to avoid. I try not to be too much of a germophobe though. I'd go crazy if I thought about that kind of stuff too much. I don't eat conveyor belt sushi or any crappy low quality fish like that. I get the good ****
I have done intermittent fasting for over 5 years...ranging from 16-24 hours. Recently I have been reading about prolonged fasting (72+hrs) and the benefits. You only need to do them 3-4 times a year in comparison to intermittent which you can do almost daily (especially the 16:8 one). I made it to 70 hours today. It became tough to watch the astros game in the middle of a 3 day fast. lol. Prolonged fasting has been demonstrated to: Increase cellular resistance to toxins in both human and mice studies Reduces circulating insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) Protect cells from chemotoxicity (for example those who undergo chemotherapy) Differences between PF and fasting of less than 24 hours are likely due to the complete exhaustion of glycogen. Our liver stores most of our body’s glucose in the form of glycogen.
