Did the Texans possibly back themselves into the Thursday opener?

Eh... you'll have to do better to convince me. Dallas and Green Bay are ratings gold, regardless of when they're good or not good. They were chasing the ratings there, regardless of whether or not the matchup was marquee.

I'm arguing they'll do the same thing here.

I think it will be between New England and Carolina.... both provide a higher chance for ratings vs. the Texans. Cam Newton should be the new face of the NFL (if he isn't already)... he's in his prime coming off an MVP season, and they're a likely favorite to dominate the NFC again (especially with Benjamin back).

I suppose if Brady is out, that could sway them... but I doubt both that he'll actually be suspended and that a Brady-less Patriots team would still get less ratings compared to the Texans.

Again, Texans v. Broncos should be a decent enough matchup to get a 3pm CBS slot... but I just don't see the possible ratings windfall to get it to the marquee NFL showcase of an opening game.
