Feel free to move this into the Offseason Thread.

    http://detnews.com/article/20100614/SPORTS0102/6140390/1127/rss13

If the Kings are willing to trade for Tayshaun + #7, do you think a trade consisting Trevor Ariza + #14 for #5 (which projects to be Demarcus Cousins) would work if we take on Nocioni or Garcia's contracts? Or is that giving up too much from our side?

When you say veteran small forward on the Houston Rockets, Trevor Ariza is not the name that first comes to mind.

Anything that involves Cousins is a no go for me.

No, no, and no. Why have 3 washed up defenders on the same team? there'd have to be a gurantee that Jeffries and Battier would be gone and that Cousins was a sure thing. I also don't see why the Kings would want Ariza.

You forgot the option of, Why would the Kings want 14th pick and Ariza when they could get a much higher pick (#7) which Detroit has along with Prince.

I felt the Kings would rather have Trevor Ariza than Tayshaun Prince, both who they would probably prefer over Shane Battier.

Trevor Ariza is not one of the players we are trying to move, as he is an important & valuable asset of our young team rebuilding. He should be become more significant with the return of Yao.

Players more available would be :-
    Battier, Hayes, Andersen, Jefferies.

We would not want to do this trade in my opinion! :p

    I'm confused.

    Prince >>>>> Ariza

    #7 >>>>>>>>> #14

The Kings were already going to be sending one of their contracts anyway to cover Prince's salary.

The OP added that the Rockets would also take back a bad contract from the Kings, whereas the Pistons trade proposal does not include this.

I trust Morey. Doubt Cousins is who he wants anyway, its never obvious with him.

We have no shot at beating that Pistons offer, if true.

We probably already have talks in place with the Kings for their pick. The Kings are just pulling a page from the Morey School of Fleecing by dropping rumors of a better offer...

This is still such a stupid trade idea even if we gie them 3 million and take all their bad contracts... They still have to take back salary and the bottom line is if they do not want Cousins or any other big that might be available and covet Xavier Henry or some other prospect who would be available at the 7th spot but not at the 14th.

I like trade ideas that are realistic. This would be so stupid for the Kings to pull the trigger on. Even they know that.

Moving down to 7 is a lot different than moving down to 14, so if the Kings are interested in selling the 5th to the Rockets, the price in addition to the 14th will be a lot more than what Detroit has to pay in addition to the 7th.

That said, the reports have it that Kings are looking at Luke Babbitt and Gordon Hayward (maybe other guys), who may well be just as available at 14th as they are at 7th, so maybe a deal can be struck. I'd imagine the Rockets will have to take back one or both of Nocioni and Garcia in exchange for an expiring contract. Houston probably proposes Jeffries, Kings may ask for Battier-- then again, may be they care more about the contract than the player given they are young/rebuilding/sucky anyway. Rockets may also toss in a future pick or a young talent (Hill, Budinger, etc.).

If such a thing is going to happen, it will likely be one of those struck right at the moment that the 13th pick is made, so that the Kings will know whether the guy they want (or one of the guys they want) is available at 14th or not.

You have no idea who the Kings want. If he is there at 14, they can extract a lot more value than if they skipped Cousins and took their guy at 5. According to the article, the Kings think their guy will be available past #6; that could easily range across only 7 picks.
