Very good point, but would he sign for so little a year long term?

That might be the dumbest possible thing they could do. No WAY you sign this guy for 6 years. Frankly, I wouldn't sign him for 5.

I think the best option is you give him one year in a sign-and-trade. It keeps his bird rights intact meaning, if he plays well, we can re-sign him next year for more than anyone. If you have to give up a #1, you do that for the option of one year with a solid rotation guy like Wells.

If he takes the minimum, great. That's one year also, but you probably lose him after the season.

I just don't think you give him any kind of long-term deal at this point. We have no idea how he will fit in with the team and he's had a history of off-the-court issues. I'm guessing he'd prefer the one year so he can test himself in free agency with a new agent next season anyway.

i see Wells taking the 2.1 million for 1 year with a player option for the second (as a insurance to injury) I dont think the TE will come into play, but i would give him a 2 year deal with it.

Bonzi wells will sign with the Rox (deductive conclusion) by the end of 'morrow. That much I see happening.

    Caveat
But if it means we send a first rounder to SacTown, then count me out. I will likely puke if that happens. I am fine with losing Luther Head or [God please] Ryan Bowen. Anything else will be uncivilized.

He isn't signing a cheap multi-year deal (what we can offer). It would be a 1 year deal like you say and he is an excellent contract year player. Has a higher rebounding rate than Juwan Howard so Battier's rebounding mismatch at the 4 is covered. Houston finally gets their perimeter defender.

Actually I'd rather keep Luther and send next year's one.
They need to take Juwan too,but that's not a dealbreaker.

So you think it will be the sign and trade? We can't add players, can we? I don't think Sacramento wants players (to add on extra salary).

I don't think the Rockets will trade away their first round pick.

Sacto is not taking Juwan. They aren't taking any salary at all because of the luxury tax. Since the Rockets are the only ones with a TE they are the only ones that realistically can work out an S&T with the Kings.

why? was sac dumb for offering 36M/5 years?

36M/6 years is still below is market price

how much did the rox/dallas/wolves offer mike james? is this that far from it?

haven't the rox done worse things than this?

agreed on the contract length. i don't think you lock up bonzi wells for 5 or 6 years. 3 years is my max length.

as far as the #1 pick, however, i do have a problem giving that up. if we are talking next year's #1 pick, then we're discussing giving up a #1 in a very talented, very deep draft. sure, we'd all like to believe that the rockets are going to storm the nba playoffs next year, but the reality as i see it is that we are one tmac back spasm or yao ming foot problem away from the lottery again - with or without bonzi. no way i want to give up next year's potential lotto pick (oj mayo, davis, noah, durant, oden, thad young, etc.). lotto protected? sure.

It turns out that the market price for Bonzi is about $2 million. His market value is what teams are willing to pay, which as we see now, is about $2 million. Therefore, Sacto was dumb to offer that, just like Denver was dumb to offer Nene that $60 million contract.

Just because one has previously jumped off a 20-foot cliff doesn't mean that he should now jump off a 15-foot cliff.

I 100% agree but I'm afraid we will have to keep the barf bags handy as we don't value draft picks. I think the Rockets see a 3 year window where they don't think anyone short of a top 5 pick will help them so we might as well trade them. But if you're going to do that, get some value for the pick AND get a player who we can really use (pf/c/pg). If we are going to get Bonzi, we will have enough swingman (maybe too many) but we've got some questions on the other pieces.

Personally, and I hope I'm wrong, but even if we sign him, I don't have as good a feeling about the 2006/2007 season as I have had in the past couple of years.

He's 30 this season there's no way we should sign him to that long of a contract, it seems to be the popular sentiment that if he comes great, but we're not opening the vault for the guy and I would tend to agree with this. If he truely wants to be in a good situation, on a winning team, where he'll get some tick and maybe be able to restore his value than great, if he's trying to cash in forget it.

Bingo we don't need a rookie.... We have a 3-4 year window... People we traded Rudy Gay for a reason...

How does this make sense? You want to trade away a first round pick (Head) that would go a lot higher if the draft was redone and keep a pick when you dont even know who we could get. If it comes down to ONE first round pick....this is a no-brainer. Please dont even mention RyBo in trade speculation.

I think the best choice right now is to work a SnT with the Kings with our TE. I am willing to throw in a second round pick, but I don't like trading away the first round picks. I think if we had a choice between a first round pick and luther, I am leaning towards trading the pick away. I would want to have the bird rights to Bonzi because winning a championship might take a few years and we need to lock in key guys. For now, we just have to wait and see what happens.

If the Rockets got Wells you would still think last years roster was better? Or does your lack of confidence have more to do with possible injuries?
