Link Here is some "inside info" regarding the Toughbook deal I posted earlier: 1) As many has surmised this is a TREMENDOUS closeout on a "Made In JAPAN" laptop that came about due to Military cancellation. The lead time on bidding and producing these for the Government is very long and now Pana is force to cut their losses and get rid of them. You may NEVER see a closeout like this again. (The current Toughbook 12" laptop model with DVD is the Toughbook S9 with a Core i5 processor, Widescreen LCD, HDMI, 320 GB HD, 6 GB DDR3 Max memory, etc. and costs close to $3,000) 2) Unbelievable build quality, MAGNESIUM frame and case with some Lexan plastic parts. You won't find this in a laptop under $1,000, let alone one under $500, (even if made in China)! 3) For the price of a good netbook you will have a full blown laptop of the highest quality for about the same size and weight. Don't let the specs fool you this is indeed a small and light notebook suited for a road warrior (like I did for years with Pana). Some of you have mentioned buying this for a child under 10 (how insulting!)which means you really are underestimating the power of this notebook and really don't know what the hell you are talking about. 4) Extremely RARE for a sub notebook this model has a DVD/CD-ROM drive built in under the Keyboard! Last I checked there were less than 4-5 models, from any brand, available IN THE WORLD with this feature in a 12 inch screen notebook. I played DVD's of TV shows I recorded or Netflix rental DVD's all the time while travelling on planes, in hotel rooms, etc. Use a pair of Bose Comfort noise suppression headset while flying and you'll be in cinematic heaven! 5) Although it is a model close to 2 years old it is still Core 2 Duo processor with Centrino chipset, has an easily replacable SATA II Hard Drive, easy to upgrade 200 pin DDR2 SODIMM memory (4 GB Max- 1 slot open for another 2 GB; 2GB on motherboard), 3 USB 2.0 ports, Gigabit ethernet, 56K modem (hey they are becoming rarer on laptops and once in a while you still might need it "on the road" where broadband is not available) 6) The LCD screen may be just a trifle on the dim side BUT given the W8's extraordinary battery life (flying coast to coast easily on a charge)it is a VERY good non glare screen nonetheless. 7) The screen may be 4:3 aspect but it will show HD content perfectly, albeit in letterbox mode. Resolution is 1024 X 768 so HD is not a problem 8) I never tried streaming Netflix or Vudu video on a W8 but since this model has an Intel 5100 "N" WiFi adapter and integrated Intel 4500HD video I would imagine it has the "horsepower" to do so. (I know it can do standard Hulu as I played that many times) 9) Panasonic Toughbooks are NOT typically sold in the consumer market but rather to business, law enforcement, public service and government where price isn't everything. These channels will pay for the quality and "toughness" their use demands. In fact Panasonic was the first "tough" style laptop brand to specifically target and grow these markets. 10) Bizco is a very legitimate Panasonic AUTHORIZED Business Partner. They are one of only a handful of carefully chosen distributors of Toughbooks in the U.S. The reason most people here on FW has never heard of them is because they are NOT a consumer B&M store or "Newegg" style online merchant. They sell primarily to customers in business, corporate, military, medical and government channels. In fact the only consumer business they do is for the occasional "accomodation" personal sale to an employee of one of these companies in these sales channels. 11) Now having said that however I can NOT vouch for how much stock Bizco may have of this closeout to sell and if every order will be honored that was referred from FW or SD. BUT knowing Panasonic as well as I do as an insider they probably dumped a good quantity on Bizco and to a few of their other Toughbook distributors based on such a DEEP price cut. Remember this laptop sold for about $2,500 about 2 years ago. (When they closeout a model Panasonic usually likes to make crazy "deep" deals with just a couple business partners so they can- 1) get rid of the inventory quickly and 2) have some control where they will eventually be resold) I think that just about does covers most queries, theories and rumours, etc. brought up by most in this thread.
