truly a great man and a family friend. he has done so much for the medical community, i am worried about the future of the texas medical center without a visionary like him
"Duncan also made his mark as a big game hunter. The Safari Club International Record Book has 550 entries for him, ranging from bighorn sheep to rhinoceros and lion." sounds like a d-bag to me.
I bet if that sentence was at the end of the bible, you'd call Jesus a d-bag. People hunt. Animals die. Get over it.
I bet if Jesus were real and was like how he is described in the bible, he wouldn't be a billionaire from Texas that likes to travel to Africa so he can roll up on unsuspecting lions and rhinos and shoot them with a rifle from 200 yards from the back of a land rover. I got no problem with hunting bro, what that guy did wasn't hunting.
rocketghost, i agree with you that his desire to hunt exotic game was detestable. however, he is also a very close family friend, and i have to stand up for him and say that he wasn't even close to being a "d-bag." he was one of the most genuine and least stuck up people i've ever met (especially considering that he was 3x as wealthy as donald trump). read a bit about his life story before you judge him; essentially everyone in his family died when he was 8 years old and he came from absolutely no money. he never spoke down to anyone and would always introduce himself to everyone individually in the room, even at large dinners. he gave over 500 million dollars to the texas medical center and personally saved baylor college of medicine (where i go to medical school). i'll take the several hundred animals he killed in exchange for the years of generosity and thousands of life his donations have saved and will continue to save. i totally understand that you were just making an innocuous comment and didn't really mean much by it, but i have to stand up for the friend i just lost.
