Israeli doctor reinfected with coronavirus 3 months after recovering By TZVI JOFFRE JULY 19, 2020 23:21 https://www.jpost.com/health-scienc...-coronavirus-3-months-after-recovering-635550
I thought cuomo was the devil and ny was the reference point for bungling? Fauci holds up New York as model for fighting coronavirus — ‘They did it correctly’ https://www.cnbc.com/2020/07/18/fau...ghting-coronavirus-they-did-it-correctly.html
This pretty much sums up the despicable politicization of this pandemic. Lockdown, mask-up, and we can go back to a mostly functioning society. Nope. Too much f-ing stupidity out there that's going to make this far worse than it needs to be.
This is one I would wait to hear more. There were reports awhile ago that people in South Korea were getting reinfected. That didn't prove exactly the case and a lot of the reinfections were seen as problems with testing.
Cuomo made some big mistakes early on. He also downplayed the virus and his most questionable decision was sending positive people back into assisted living facilities. Since then though NY appears to be doing better than many places and the recent numbers bear that out.
I've heard that heart disease deaths are up. Some have claimed that heart disease deaths are being mislabeled as COVID-19 deaths but there is little evidence for that. Others have said that because hospitals stopped non-emergency services and people were afraid to go to the ICU that might be contributing to cardiac deaths. It's also possible that one of the symptoms of COVID-19 is cardiac problems
Yes there definitely is that possibility but like with everything else about this disease we still don't know for sure and it's still early to know how long or how exactly the immune system deals with the virus.
This is true except that we know from other coronaviruses that antibodies don't last long in general with this class of viruses - even MERS or SARS only show antibodies for a year for instance, but this one seems much shorter. So we should expect that getting sick will not provide immunity beyond a few months. This is also going to be a challenge with the vaccines as it will require multiple does most likely. The good news is that antibodies are not the only form of immunity our body generates - besides IgG antibodies, there are t-cells.

If human's antibodies is only lasting a few months, this doesn't bode well for vaccine development. This thing is going to end us all.
It appears that republican house and senate leaders are worrying more and more about how COVID-19 and trump's response is impacting the congressional races in November... republican congressional candidates as well as republican gubernatorial candidates will need to decide if they stick with trump or speak out against trump... trump in his Chris Wallace interview indicated he was willing to keep blocking any COVID-19 aid package if it continued to include money for (get this) testing and research (because trump believes that increased testing will result in public awareness or more cases and thus "make him look bad"). McConnell, McCarthy expected to meet with Trump amid worsening coronavirus crisis Congress only has a few weeks left in Washington to pass another aid package before lawmakers take their annual summer recess. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/co...mp-amid-worsening-coronavirus-crisis-n1234324
Yes and no. It's possible we could have a vaccine but will need yearly booster shots or just like the flu a different formulation. One thing I've heard is that antibody count is directly proportional to viral exposure. It's possible that to get the immune system to react enough to confirm immunity the vaccine might have to mimic a heavy viral load that could be dangerous to many. Like everything else though we don't know...
The ignorance continues. I saw this morning, someone who does martial arts of course, posting again that the only reason we have more cases is testing, that the flu is more dangerous and death rates are flat or declining. Here's the facts. Testing will increase the total number but the main factor is the percent of positives rate. The argument that we wouldn't have so much cases without so much testing is like saying we wouldn't have pregnancies if not for pregnancy test. The lethality rate for the seasonal flu is about 0.1% for COVID-19 it is between 1-3%. For a bad flu season we get about 70,000 deaths. For COVID-19 we are over 140,000. Lethality for both the flu and COVID-19 is calculated similarly. We reached a high for daily deaths aroudn 2,700 in mid May. It declined to about 500 per day in June but since then has been creeping up to about 1,000 per day now.
