Not necessarily. Maddux may have pitched differently to Berkman had Biggio been on second with one out instead of third. The way this team is hitting currently, you've got to scratch out runs whenever you can. It worked perfectly in the 1st.
Yeah but the thing you are assuming is that Viz makes an out without moving Biggio ... If he had swung away he may have made an out and moved the runner over while still having a chance to get a hit and not waste an out. With the Sac bunt, you are guaranteed an out and not guaranteed that the runner moves to third. I like scratching out a run late in a tight ball game, but in the first inning it is not working out for us at all.
Boy, Redding is falling apart this inning. 2 outs then a walk to Maddux, single Walker, walk to light hitting Martinez; hits Alou to force in a run. Tie game.
Whoops. Cancel that. Ball hit Alou's bat and not his arm. Redding gets another shot and induces a fly out to get out of the inning with no runs. *whew*
That's ancient history . I had to laugh at Bidge on that outfield play. Baby steps. Baby steps. Miss. Drop. Hehe...go Astros! How bout dim Assssssstrooooossssss!
Guess no one is watching this exciting game...zzzzzzzzzzzzzz This team will put you to sleep if you're not careful
Why hit a HR when you can get a bloop RBI single off the end of the bat, with no fielder even close to the ball. You don't score enough runs, and you don't make plays in the outfield, your pitchers are gonna give up some runs. now 4-2.
Yea...that tie was short-lived. Now we're back to being down 2-3 with the Cubs threatening to do more. In fact, they just did score two more. 2-4
The Astros will fire the hitting coach and bring in whoever is in New Orleans (Gary Gaetti?). You heard it here first...
I was thinking about that today. I figured that would be the first warning shot that Gerry and Drayton will fire. Not necessarily Spillman's fault, but again .........its all about accountability.
I actually thought that they should have done this already... our hitters haven't exactly been flourishing under Spillman, wheras Gaetti has turned Everett into a respectable guy, he's got Burke slugging (for the first time in his career, really), Buck hitting for HR's and avg., he had Ensberg in a groove when he was down there, Ginter, etc. I doubt he'd help much with Kent, Bagwell and Biggio, but he could pay big dividends with Lane, Ensberg, Everett, and maybe even Berkman can pick up a right-handed hitting tip from him. Something has to be done...
Wow... that's the first cheap Crawford box HR I can remember the Astros hitting this year. (be quiet Worrell on how "strong" Lane is... that was a cheapie)
