Are yall seeing a bunch more of these big, ridged brown lizards in your yard? It is called the Cuban brown anole. It is an invasive species that apparently has been growing in the area for years. But, this year it seems like their population in my yard has absolutely exploded. They are fast scamperers, and they are always scattering about underfoot when I go outside now.

I like having lizards around (even though my daughter says they steal your soul) because they eat bugs and stuff, but it's too much. Freakin' everywhere. I don't know if it is something about my yard or are they having a bumper crop all over Houston this year.

Been big for the last 5-10 years, bigger every year. Theyve run off all the green Carolina Anoles, which used to be every where and were much more chill.

Got a ton of them in my yard. We've actually seen a come back of the green ones as well this year.

The brown ones are pretty active though. Anytime I'm walking around the yard I hear them scampering. They're super fast too. My kids like catching lizards and have much more luck with the greenies.

When we just look out the windows, pretty much anywhere you look, you'll see a lizard scampering around. It's like Jurassic Park out there.

I'm assuming those are the one that were everywhere when I was a kid? Changed colors to match the gray fence or the brown bark or the green leaves...did the red throat thing when they were horny? Tails would regrow if it got pulled off by a bird or cat or something? We have a ton of cool lizards up here, but not those, haven't seen one in ages.

Not sure what the difference is. Educate me.

Almost the same. The are different colors obviously, but the brown ones are more aggressive and prolific and are driving the green ones out of the area. Its been so long since I've seen one that my wife took photos when one came around a couple of months ago. I cant walk anywhere without almost stepping on a brown one.

Huh, I never saw those brown ones back in the day, and this is the first I've heard of the takeover.

    Invasive species suck.

I hadn’t really paid much attention but now that you mention it, I have seen a lot more of them and less of the green ones. Is it wrong to want the green ones back? I’m so confused these days

I miss all of the Texas Horny toads that were everywhere as a kid. I haven't seen one in many years in West Texas. I used to collect them and place them into a shoe box then bring them into my room and let them run amok. Once they discovered they could slip thru the bedroom door and run down the hallway toes tapping on the wood floors into my shrieking mother. I was never allowed to bring them into the house again. Those green lizards were everywhere as a kid in Clear Lake, I still see them on occasion lately in the Austin area.

I thought this was a misspelling of Cuban Brown Atole. I've seen these in my yard and they DGAF.

I read.....somewhere......that the green ones are still around, but the new aggressive brown ones have chased the green ones further up in trees.
