That's how you get kids to respect and listen to you. If officers keep on engaging adolescents like this, instead of having to shout commands for them to cooperate, they just have to say "I'm not angry, I'm upset", and that would be enough for them to feel like **** and comply.

Actually I suspect the primary goal was to prevent unnecessary first-responder calls for non-criminal behavior; ultimately parents, teachers and other adults should condition kids to identify strongly enough with society at large to practice civic decency and cordially engage public authority figures.

    Love the cop.

If he would have been a dick, obviously black America would cry foul. Just real talk.

I've swear I've seen something similar to this happen before on COPS (without the Shaq part). Except on that episode, the cop actually went to talk to the old lady complaining to explain to her that the kids weren't doing anything wrong.

Those kids should have been thrown in jail for that awful defense.

The officers I have known have been much more in this vain. Having government authority to arrest, use force, and kill doesn't mean you can't interact with people like a decent human being.

I'm always pleased to see stories like this. Respect is a two-way street.
