An actor / entertainer will often call it his or her "brand". I've heard Kevin Hart call it as such. This isn't to zero in on African Americans. Adam Sandler usually has a brand of awful stupid-ass comedy, but that's his success (with occasional forays into real acting, especially now that he's no longer so very young).
Wife and I saw it yesterday afternoon, its totally forgettable. They run through the classic bits from the original then move it back to Zamunda where the focus changes to the son's character. I think that's the biggest issue, he's like the main character from then on out and he's just not interesting or strong enough to carry the rest of the movie. It's ok for a one time watch but you'll forget it pretty quickly. Snipes vs Murphy would have been so much better as the crux of the plot. C+
Went in with low expectations and it still wasn’t very good. Had a few moments. Oh well. The original is still beyond a classic.
other than for nostalgic purposes, it was pretty bad. 2/10 in a bubble where the original never existed. That increases to about a 5/10 based on nostalgia. It really is impressive to see the old crew back together, but it was also all kind of a wasted effort. Snipes was great though!
Definition of a meh film. I don't hate it as much as most, but man it could have been waaaaaaay better with more effort and creative writing. Definitely predictable, about 20 minutes in you know exactly where it is all going. It had a "Princess Diaries" theme to it. Just a lot of Hollywood recycling, which they do acknowledge and poke fun at. I think this film is more enjoyable to those who didn't invest so heavily in the first one as a fan. My wife had seen the original and likes it, but not nearly as much as I do. She enjoyed the sequel much more than I did.
Funny, I actually thought Leslie Jones was the only funny person in the entire movie. Just an awful sequel. Bummed to see Eddie waste his talents. Dolemite>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>..
Felt the same about Daryl, was waiting for him to pop out while watching the whole movie still promoting Soul Glo.
10/10 for the Mutombo cameo My thoughts on the movie - the story felt really rushed, acting outside of Eddie was really mediocre. What should have been the biggest part of the story, the son falling in love, felt like an afterthought that was thrown together last second. Still, comedies for me are like pizza, even when they are terrible, they are still pretty good. Seeing the faces and the references to the original made it solid.
Speaking of, CBS and ESPN have been replaying the old Geico Mutumbo commercial regularly during college hoops this weekend, still makes me smile every time.
