Comcast Internet Service Needs Main Power?

Does anyone on this board work for Comcast or know the inner workings of how their internet lines work? So we just got Comcast internet service installed last Friday and am very happy with it (changed from AT&T DSL). I have the computer, modem and router hooked up to an APC battery backup unit and we just had a power out for a few minutes and noticed the cable internet went down during the outage. The APC unit worked fine and everything remained powered on but the internet service did go down. Unfortunately I wasn't at home to experience this and my gf didn't check on the modem lights but my question is does Comcast internet service need neighborhood power in order to pass the internet signal through the coax line?

When we had AT&T DSL, the internet would still work even during power outages. I'm guessing cable internet service (and possibly tv as well) could go down when there's no electricity and therefore no power to push the signal from the central box. And since AT&T DSL was via phone line, they may have a separate power source to push their signal.

Any thoughts or opinions on this?

They might have some type of powered Long Range Extender. In my experience the line goes straight to the tap, tap is on the or goes to the pole....no power there. But there's power somewhere pushing that signal. So if it went out too, you're down.

Thanks Xerobull for your response. I figured there was power needed somewhere along the line and that's most likely why it went down.
