Do it! Clint Capela drops bombshell about the Houston Rockets https://spacecityscoop.com/posts/clint-capela-recent-comments-rockets-red-alert
I think Clint would fit in well as our backup center. At 29 he’ll be productive through the rest of his contract. Size, rim protection, defense, rebounding and scoring around the rim? Yes please. Would fill a gap Landale can’t fill.
He would be great. Play Alpi at PF for just a few minutes a game next to Clint. I imagine that Sengun would be able to generate some offense passing to Clint for the finish. Sengun plays 24 min at center and 6 at PF. Clint plays 24 other center minutes. Green is 3rd or small ball/stretch center and gets pf or sf minutes. Dipo/Landale/3 2nd rounders sounds great.
I think Capela could be a good fit, though I do worry about the shooting. Our bench unit already struggles with shooting/spacing, even moreso when Amen comes back. Also yall need to keep in mind this is for a backup position, you can't get everything. We can't get a young big rim running lob catching rim protecting defensive stud that also shoots threes. That's a max player and I also don't even think he exists. A backup center is gonna have to be deficient in some areas.
Capela would be nice but I think he wants a bigger role than what Houston is looking to give a back up C. Sengun is averaging 31 minutes a game and Capela who has been starting several hundreds game in a row is most likely not looking out for an even more reduced role.
This would be great if we didn't have Jabari. I think Jabari can, at least should be able to, do everything Clint can do and more. If there was no Jabari I would say we have to go for it. But Clint would interfere with Jabari's minutes and Jabari needs minutes. He, along with Alpy and Jalen, is the future. Clint is the past.
If he'd genuinely come here to play Sengun's back up and add some rim protection then that genuinely seems like a no brainer to me. He could easily play alongside Alpi too and catch a few lobs.
Actually that is some what of true. I just checked their head to head stats and Clint Capela must be one of the centers with the best stats vs Jokic while not getting completely crushed: https://www.landofbasketball.com/games_between/clint_capela_vs_nikola_jokic.htm
Landale just isn't doing nearly enough. If he doesn't get better, or healthier, or both, I'd welcome Capella back bad shooting and all.
Capela won't be coming here, the role for him is way too small considering his play of lately. Although I totally agrre that Landale's lackluster play has been an issue, I hope he steps up or the Rockets must do something about it.
It's not for Capela to decide. He has two years left on his deal. If the Hawks decide to go in a different direction, we have the expiring contracts and draft picks to make something work.
