Anything LEGAL, maybe. I definitely wouldn’t break the law when I could just buy their way in with a legal donation.

Isn't that the weirdest thing? Is it inaccurate that families can simply donate to a university to curry favor?

These parents probably can't easily do this, as Chris Hayes explains in terms of "fractal inequality." Look at the defendants named by the FBI-- they are rich, One-Percenters, but not the kind of 0.01-Percenters who donate enough to have buildings named after them. This is the difference between Tilman Fertita and Steve Balmer.

I don’t think 15M is required. 2.5M was enough to get Trumps son in law into Harvard. I bet 1M woulda been more than enough.

This is nothing new, there have always been massive gaps between the poor and the wealthy, and the wealthy and the 'super-rich'. The difference is mindset. The super-rich don't donate squat to get their kids into schools, the schools compete to get their kids. What ends up happening is the super-rich have to dump money for some reason or another (taxes) and pick a school to donate to. It's usually either their alma mater, or, if they're self made billionaires, their kid's alma maters because it's a better political move (business networking).

Your example of Tilman vs Balmer is a little skewed. It's more like the highest US tax bracket vs the rest of the world. Then the super rich (who don't pay much in taxes anyway) vs the highest tax bracket.

Mail fraud is srs biz. If rich people are desperate to do that, what else are they willing to do?

    I'm sure they don't.

No one without a history of violence should have a gun pointed at them by law enforcement without cause.

The FBI loves to blow tons of money and resources going after celebrities and politicians. Anything to get in the newspaper.

That agent in the press conference was actually bragging about the amount of resources they spent on this.

Wait... was there a reason you went to a D&D thread on this topic and cross-posted in the non-political discussion board?

just following your example, thought cross-pollination would be good :p

but I do have to say . . . the idea that "this really isn't a political topic" strikes me as, well, naive. ;)

Of course, your mileage may vary, but in my opinion both of these threads would be better merged in the D&D
