I think the pitch itself was a strike. Maby a tad low but its how he has been calling them all night. That was some nice work by Dotel to get out of the inning.
I don't think so. What has happened to his arm? That ball was right there if the fielder had decided to catch it instead of trying to apply a tag with an empty glove.....
What were Ausmus' career numbers against Tavares???? Because, unless he was like 9 for 10, I don't understand why he wasn't BUNTING. At the worst, he strikes out and we have a guy in Ensberg who COULD actually hit a HR to end it. I saw that DP coming from miles and miles away.... ah well, gotta love this game. They competed well.
Tavares has been pretty brutal early this season so it probally wasnt too bad of a choice to let him swing.
True dat... and that has to be the only reason they let him swing away.... But when you take into account all the other factors: 1.) Ausmus is (and always has been) one of the most likely double-play candidates in the Majors. 2.) Tavares, when he's effective, has been quite good at getting double plays. 3.) You have Ensberg on deck... who's probably due to hit his first HR sometime this year. I just would have liked to see Morgan get a shot... esp. with us only down by one, and Ausmus' tendencies. But alas... hindsight is 20/20... it seems like both teams made all the right moves, and the team with a few more breaks won the game tonight. If baseball only consisted of series between the Cardinals and Astros, sign me up... definitely a great rivalry, and its fun as hell to watch.
That's an easy one- Biggio! And then we would've moved Bagwell to 3rd and Berkman to 1st just because we can.
