Can you kill someone?

In self-defense, of course. To protect a loved one, again of course. Anything else, I highly doubt it. I guess I fear eternal damnation a little too much.

 

Nobody said anything about barbecuing the remains. You were the one who went there.

Some of my co-workers were actually talking about this the other day. According to one of them, the most common motive for killing someone else is to get water.

 

It also kinda depends on what you mean by "kill". One could argue that a President kills when orders an attack on an enemy.

If you kill one person, you are an assassin.
If you kill a million people, you are a conquerer.
If you kill everyone, you are a god.

Yeah, I wonder about this. Protecting my family? I bet I could/would..I just might have issues with it after the fact but heat of the moment I can be very protective and very impulsive. Revenge - if someone killed my wife or kid or what have you - I am not so sure about. Probably would depend on the time of opportunity. For example, if I saw a loved one killed from afar and could run to the scene I probably would let my anger take over and do what I could (admittedly not too much) to destroy anyone in my path. If, however, I was farther removed from the action (putting aside questions of catching the right person) I doubt I would be the stalk/ambush type that are so common in movies...on the courthouse steps or something.

 

I never said it was justifiable.

Maybe it's a good thing I don't want to own a gun.

I know you said it in jest... but just for the record, there is a difference between knowing that you could be compelled to kill and a willingness to kill.

While both may be a choice, the burden of arriving at the decision to kill somehow seems much lower when one has a "willingness" to kill.

I'm not at all inclined to kill someone and would look for ways around it, but I know myself well enough to realize that if the right forces acted upon me, I could.
