Hey man, the lady has a highpaying job with incredible benefits! If she substitutes her judgement for a public poll, she might get voted out of office! If there is one thing that President Clinton taught us, its that it is okay to sell out your base, and long as re-election is assured. This way, the big congressional paychecks will keep on coming.

A representative is expected to vote the way their constituency would, that is why they were elected. In every case possible, they SHOULD get input from their district. There are some circumstances (this being one of them), when they need to have a "feel" for how those they represent would vote since there was not a lot of time to get input.

I don't elect a representative to use their judgement, I elect them to execute the will of their district.

You should be mad as hell then that we pay these people so much money. Why not judge let your district vote over the internet on all matters before the Congress?

The answer is that we do not elect representatives to take polls before they vote. We elect them because we hope they are smarter than us, and can quickly comprehend the problems that face our nation. We elect them because hopefully they possess the character (yes, character does count) to make unpopular decisions because they know that their constituancy will benefit in the long run.

Your version of the relationship between voters and their representatives is as flawed as the concept of true Democracy. Neither works in practice, a fact that our founding fathers knew thankfully.
