Just saw that Cal and Stanford are joining the rush to leave the Pacific Coast league and are joining the Atlantic Coast league next year. SMU is also joining. This is hilarious in general but just think about the scheduling of non-football sports. Not only is travel going to be terrible, but if you are a fan of college basketball when are the games going to be on? It's either going to be really late for east coast fans or really early for the west coast fans. This whole thing is NCAA ADs getting greedy, they think that more money solves everything and that since football subsidizes everything it's within their right to be greedy, but they don't think about the impact it has on non-football athletes and fans.
It’s moves like this that have largely turned me off of College football. When A&M left to go join the SEC was the sign to me that college football was going downhill. A school that prides it self in tradition and rivalry. Many of their cheers wer about beating Texas including “Horns Down”. Was more interested in revenue than fan base was a bad sign. Of course UT was also pushing their Longhorn network that was alienating. All the other BIG 12 schools too.
A&M belonged in the SEC, mentally and culturally. Same with Arkansas. Colorado belonged in the PAC (oops) and Nebraska in the Big10 (future oops). Sorry about the PAC, but it was inevitable.
A&M belonged in the SW Conference which died the same fate that the PAC 10 is. That was one of the big demises of regional conferences where there were Historical rivalries that defined states. I guess it is good but ironic that finally the UT and A&M rivalry will be renewed but it shouldn’t have ended in the first place.
