I keep hearing about rockets fans wanting Ben Simmons back in a harden trade if that was to happen .After analyzing some of his stats, there pros and con's concerning his game. Pro's At age 24 ,6'10 ,he is a playmaker that can assist and help with the rebounds. Has a PER of 20.47 which ranks 43rd in the league, which is nice for a young player. This past year he averaged 16.4 pts/8 reb and 8 assist. And plays damn good defense ,opponents are only shooting 42 % when guarded by him. Con's The biggest con to his game is his lack of shooting, this past year he shot the ball at only 28.3 percent from the 3. On shots that are 10-14 ft he shoots 12.5 %. On shots from15-19 ft ,he shoots 20%. Basically hes a taller and younger version of Russell Westbrook. I do believe he can improve his shooting and has a high ceiling, The question is how much will he improve his shot. Im always concerned with players that can not shoot, take for example westbrook ,yes he can jump, dunk, rebound and assist ,but to win a championship you have to be able to shoot the ball. Its a gamble with Ben ,some young guys that I would put ahead of him right now are Tatum and Zach Lavine. Lavine can do everything and he is on a cheaper contract. And Tatum is prob one day going to be a top 20 player. Ben Simmons is a gamble, he needs to show shooting improvement.
Ben Simmons will never develop a reliable shot...he doesn’t have the confidence to even attempt a jump shot, let alone actually hit one with that said, he is still a young, All-Star level player who is likely the best we can get for Harden...it’s really that simple this is not a situation where guys like Tatum are available, and people are like nah, gimme Simmons
Every player has flaws. At the end of the day it is "who is the least flawed player that is also available." We are spoiled with Harden. Simmons is easily the best potential available talent out there.
The only con i see with Simmons is that Rich Paul might want him to join Davis in LA once Lebron retires (that's why if you get him you better create a perfect situation for him as soon as you can). Aside for that, if you can get Simmons in this situation you are fool if you decide to pass him.
If we could realistically get a player better than him I'd be all for it. The only reason people are clamoring for Simmons is because that doesn't seem like a possibility. Boston isn't giving up Channing Tatum.
"And Tatum is prob one day going to be a top 20 player." How out of touch are you fam? He's already top 10
If he was a 3 and D guy, CFs would be all over him ... Lol... Damn a 3pter.... The guy can average 23-25 ppg easily if he was more aggressive... He's a unique specimen... Use him correctly and he's can be a force!
Don't want a 24 year old. I want 19 year olds who can be bad for 3 years. Send him to OKC for pick package, specifically our own back.
Trade him for Devin Booker and picks. Gets to go back to AZ, gets a do over with cp3. Plus they’d have Ayton. Make a couple of moves and they could be legit. Houston gets a young scorer with potential that fits better with team direction.
He should focus more on developing a post game. Much easier for him than learning to shoot better. mismatch all day with elite passing off the block. Sheeeeet. might not be bad. IF .
Yes we all understand Westbrook, Simmons and Giannis all need to develop a jump shot and they need to be the lead dog facilitator. Embiid high USG% and tendency to dribble the air out of the ball reminds us of Harden and forces Simmons to be overshadowed. Role would be better defined in Houston. But with Harden out and Cousins saying he is willing to come off the bench or do whatever Houston wants......it’s all good. Simmons playing next to Wood or Cousins or both works because Wood and Cousins can play off the ball and shoot 3’s or mid range. Iso, PnR or PnPop........Harden has gotten away from PnR and probably wants iso all the time. Next team can let Harden do that.
Zach lavine???? Simmons can't shoot? Incredible deduction. This definitely Don't deserve its own thread.
