Said he was not going to be back with the Astros next season. Best of luck wherever he goes or best of relaxation in his retirement. He will be missed.

Looking forward to see what his protege Bill Murphy can do.

Jeff Luhnow gone, AJ Hinch gone, and now Brent Strom gone.

    I'm sad.

    He’s gotta be retiring

Does Strom have a beef with the organization or someone in particular? He’s definitely not coming back here but he isn’t necessarily retiring.

Bret Strom was an amazing coach, he led a pitching staff to do great things.

    He will be missed…

He wants to let his guys ( assistants) have a chance and he thinks they deserve it.

Political answer by Strom. His assistants could also get jobs elsewhere

Happened with Wayne Graham, and it was disastrous to the program when it did happen.

I just had a epiphany. Strom was a Cardinals coach with Luhnow so I imagine they could be very tight. Him leaving may have something to do with how Luhnow was scapegoated by the organization.

Here is an article that provides some evidence to my theory.

Maybe Luhnow has a job lined up somewhere and Strom is gonna head some front office pitching role for him.

He's also 73 years old - older than Dusty Baker. He might just be ready to retire. Hard for me to believe he wants to start over somewhere else at this point in his life, but who knows.

I think strom would have been an advantage to get dudes on prove it deals. Most of the time, cash is king in FA, so not that big a deal, but he was an advantage. Dude gets a lot of credit but should get more.

From his quotes about retiring from the Astros and not necessarily retiring from baseball points in this direction. I think he picks up a consultant or head of pitching role somewhere that doesn't require him to travel. You can tell he still loves baseball.

Appreciate everything that Strom has done with this young pitching staff. Without him I don't think we get to the WS this year and to the ALCS last year.
