https://news.yahoo.com/senator-could-become-bidens-attorney-115758450.html This would be a good reason for me to vote Republicans next election. I'm against monopolies when there's no alternative even available for the consumer. I don't think google is that. Before we discuss google, can we actually look into whether people have choices as Telecom provider in all areas of the US? Those are real monopolies, even if localized.
Something like this would need Kamala's heavy involvement, and I don't think she has the guts to do it. This would also cripple Yang's wealth distribution plan as it heavily relies on taxing trillion dollar companies to fund it. China tech is a threat as well, and if Biden carries out 1/10 of Trump Admin's plan of isolating China, our tech giants will probably get even bigger when all that is the internet is broken up in half++... ...That Ant IPO fiasco also signals China's gov being afraid of their tech companies. Just have to see who the governments hates/fear more.
just the opposite, it'll be right up Andrew Yang's alley say, Google breaks up to 3 or 4 parts. so now there will be 3 or 4 $trillion co from which to levy tax. these smaller trillion $ co will not be as powerful as the bigger Google, pre-breakup
Google is definitely trying to grow vertically. They already are in the process of ditching qualcomm and making their own processors. Already make their own smartphones with google services. They've become pretty vertical and are only going more vertical as time moves forward.
Both parties have tech they want to breakup. And to me this is no indication Biden wants to break up Google. But if they went that route. From what I understand, the common thought is to block Google from being the search engine default on Apple devices. Which actually hurts Apple more IMO because they get paid A LOT by Google to do that. I don't think the government understands how to breakup Google. It's all a big hodge-podge of products using data to dial-up ad revenue. What's the plan here even?
Good they should have done this a while ago. If the government didn't force Microsoft to not force IE down your throat do you think google would be as big as it is?
Such a disappointment that the original decision against Microsoft, to split them up, was reversed on appeal. The internet would have been way better off, rather than the entire world being stuck on IE six for like... ten years.
I'm wondering the same. Back in the 90s it was very hard for lawyers to even explain to the judges the difference between a web browser and an operating system (in the Microsoft case.) You could force Google to allow other search engines, but the process of switching that in Chrome and on an Android phone are pretty painless. I just switched my phone to Duckduckgo and it was easy. Maybe they can force Google to separate their services (gmail, maps, search) from the main fork of Android. If it's breaking up the company, I'm curious which divisions they want to isolate and why. I'm not against regulating monopolies, at all, we want to keep competition vibrant. I just hope we have savvy legislators making the case.
Google isnt Rockefeller actively putting people out of business. Facebook and Google rely on their omnipresence and its a benefit to consumers Amazon as a retailer is another but they still compete with WalMart. When i loose or just buy another cell phone i rely on Google to have my contacts.
And the profits they make from search won't get reinvested into the other money losing businesses, resulting in more $ subject to traditional taxes. Glad I don't hold googl anymore, + I'm keeping an eye out for Warren and treasury sec news, she definitely has Google in her crosshairs.
Because all the other forced breakups have worked out great right? There are other search engines ready for anyone to use..bing..yahoo.. Plenty of email services Apple Maps is default on iPhones and yet people go out of their way to use Google maps Google productivity tools? what’s the purpose of this? I agree Google is a big company but I don’t get how breaking them up is good for the consumer.
The thing about Google... ATT/Southwestern Bell created JOBS. Google creates PROFESSIONS. Leave em' alone.
Huh, interesting. This is *exactly* what @tinman would post. Has anyone seen you both Inside The Loop at the same time?
