He just got cut from the Chiefs...he was a top 5 corner under Crennel, would love to see him in a Texans uniform! Thoughts? http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/06/13/chiefs-release-cornerback-brandon-flowers/
Interesting thought, he was one of the top corners in the league a few years ago, but one of the worst corners in the league last year. There is some evidence that he was simply used wrong last year though, so I think it would be a good low risk high reward type idea if we could afford him.
XFS is the only rookie left to sign and we have $9.6 MM in cap space. how much of that you think Flowers would eat?
It would be good to get Flowers... Question is if he'll want to come to a 2-14 team. Especially when teams like San Francisco need help at corner.
Depends on if he's the guy he was in 2010 or the guy he was last year. If his collapse as a player happened due to a scheme change and coaching then it'll be awesome.
I had to look up what "shadow corner" was, and it's probably a term coined by PFF. To boot, the article I found from them has some praise for JJo. https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2014/05/08/shadow-cornerbacks-the-big-four/ Here's an evaluation of Flowers' 2012 season under Crennel, coincidentally another 2-14 season. http://presnapreads.com/2013/05/22/brandon-flowers-a-superstar-cornerback-lost-in-the-crowd/ At first glance 2013 really seems like a scheme thing, and the payout could be too huge to pass on. The trend has been that teams are investing more into the nickel corner, and having anyone but Brandon Harris there would be greatly beneficial.
