didn't they also find cocaine? clearing cap space is not a problem, but why would boston sign for $3-4M/year? i imagine he'll be able to get upwards of $6M if he has another solid year.
Hometown Discount? I'm sorry. I said 3-4 million being more conservative. I'm just not up to date with players make these days. However, There are other ways around paying guys 6 million straight up. The Texans will have to offer a huge signing bonus and perks if they are to sign Boston. The cocaine was not his. I just don't see it. Bottom Line, Boston is the guy we need to solidify the passing game. We got a good shot to get him, but it'll take some shrewd negotiating.
i think the idea of a "hometown discount" is a myth -- what player has ever returned home for less money? it just doesn't happen. no player in this day and age is gonna leave $3-4M/year on the table so he can play football in his hometown. i mean, if doing that was so important to boston, why didn't he go to school in texas? is playing close to home really a priority of his? shrewd? nah, the texans have no cap worries. if they want him, they can afford to pay him. the question is whether he's worth it.
I'm not "up" on the football cap like I am the basketball cap, Ric. I thought I remembered reading somewhere that the Texans are right at the cap, or close to it, right now. So if we were to make to offer a guy like David Boston 5-6 mil a season, how would the team go about making that space?
Dave has always wanted to be a Buckeye. He had no taste for Texas Schools. I don't know if playing here is a top priority...the hometown discount was a joke. But I think you'll be surprised.
they're up against the cap this year, but have several 1-year deals they'll lose (banks, allen, mitchell) and can always finagle contracts, etc.
