I recently got this idea that I wanted to collect some of the books I read as a kid (1980s) but the more I look, the more I realized that I forgot what hey were!

    My favorites:
    - My Side of the Mountain
    - Hatchet
    - A Wrinkle in Time
    - Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing
    - Tomie dePaola illustrations
    - Phantom Tollbooth

But there are tons that I don't know the names for.. like the one:
    - about a 'wild' boy being found in the woods under a bright flash of lights. later, he exhibits 'super' powers like running really fast and strength. but he tires really easily. turns out there are other children like him all over the world.. and they all age prematurely...

any other books you liked as a kid but forgot the name for?

The Westing Game. well i guess i didn't forget the name, but i loved that book in 5th grade. i vaguely remember some of the phantom tollbooth (some guy named Chroma?) but only b/c our class built a cardboard tollbooth for it and that was where you could spend reading time some days.

edit: oh yeah, Scary Stories was great. what was that one book called about some weird school without a 13th floor? sideways school or sideways stories from wayside school?

Just about every "Choose Your Own Adventure" book every made.

    The Encyclopedia Brown series.

A bunch of Beverly Clearly stuff.

A book that I think was called, Soup.

A ton of non-fiction books on Plains Indian tribes.

You will be happy to know that in most schools in Los Angeles that is required reading for 3rd graders to this day.

I think the only book I ever read that I actually liked was Jim Kelly's autobiography "Armed and Dangerous." I read that in 7th grade.

All of those godawful "Fudge" books by Judy Blume. We were always having to read those in class.
