You find what he said "racist"? https://www.yahoo.com/sports/bob-br...an-have-to-live-with-every-day-210215857.html
He might have been trying to create a light hearted image of an old guy like Seaver wearing a du-rag -- he might have been irritated that the pitcher was wearing one and let loose with a race baiting comment. Hard to tell but his partner's silence is telling.
My first impression is no but that's because I enjoy listening to this song and I don't know enough about baseball to know who Tom Seaver is without resorting to a search engine. Does Seaver have a history of racism and wearing a durag to mock others thus the inappropriate comparison? Or is it just commenting on the fashion choice to wear a durag and how it reminded him of an era of baseball when it was more common for athletes to wear them?
People are reading too much into this. Bob Brenley wore a du rag when he was a catcher in the 80’s for the Giants.
This sums up 20/21 to a tee and where we are at as a society. Veiwership is down because there is not enough stuff by Trump to be outraged about, so now we have have find things to be outraged about and write that next opinion piece that gets views. The other broadcasters could have not known how to take and stayed silent or it was a normal silence (kinda looked like that to me) but hey I get paid to interpret stuff so let's just go with my interpretation because it bolsters my argument and somebody will agree with me because they want to outraged as well. The person writing the opinion piece has no idea of the underlying history of his comments ( players actually did wear durags like the Seaver and Brenly). I have no idea why anyone would construe what he said as coded, since when is comparing somebody to Tom Seaver a code? It's just a lot of ****ery. The author of the piece is playing to a specific audience.
