The city of New York really deserved a championship after all that's happened. I feel bad for the city, and for the fans. I don't really care about the teams involved, just the city. It's a shame...

Maybe they can reflect on the last 4 years and feel better.

Sorry, I don't buy it. Winning a world championship wouldn't have helped the people cope with the attack, or comforted the victims of the family. This was a sporting events, and it was about the teams. I hate when people equate this to the terrorist attack and try to make it seem like Arizona did something bad by winning the championship. This isn't about the people in New York, though our prayers go out to them, this is about athletes fighting hard for a championship. If New York "deserved" a championship (they already have 4 of them) why not just cancel the World Series and hand them the championship? A world championship isn't going to bring back the 6000 people and a world championship isn't going to help the people of New York. It would have gave them something to cheer about for a few days, but any sporting even can do that. At least they gave their fans something to cheer about the 3 games in New York.

No, it wouldn't help the victims. It would, however, help the other 20 million people living in the city. A nice championship parade would be fabulous for the people of New York right now.

I'm not trying to bring Arizona down. All I'm saying is that I feel bad for New York because of this.

Good lord, I'm actually agreeing with ZRB. :)

New York City would have benefited from a (yet another) Yankees championship. All we hear on the news nowadays are anthrax scares and firemen punching policemen over Rudy's change in WTC cleanup strategies. A nice, positive ticker-tape parade would have helped this city more than you could possibly believe. This city needs something positive (and the NYC Marathon ain't it). Uniting New Yorkers once again for a common cause would have helped speed its residents towards a faster recovery. Hell, I still flinch when I see low flying planes moving in the direction of the Empire State Building. My fiancee still has nightmares after watching a plane smack the WTC. We (New Yorkers) could all use a quick breather from the weight of terrorism fears and trauma. If a Yankees championship and subsequent parade would help forget our emotional baggage for even 5 seconds, it would be a tremendous help. I can't speak for the rest of New York's population, but a feel-good Yankees win would've helped me, and I'm not even a Yanks fan...

Having said that, I don't think the Yankees deserved to win due to the attacks. It would've been nice and therapeutic for the City, but, hey, that's why they play the games, right?

Zrb, would you be saying the same thing if the Mets won?

Maybe the loss will be an even bigger gain for NY and America. After all, some times you play great and hard, but just come up a little short on the scoreboard. It is a game after all, we put too much on whether you win 3-2 or lose 2-3 in the 7th game.

Life aint sports, but sports is entertainment and an opportunity for players and teams to show great heart and courage. So NY, celebrate the great effort this postseason and string of successes--despite the less than fantasy finish on the scoreboard last night for the Yankees, with the biggest best parade in sports history. That could be the best lesson the Yankees and New Yorkers could give to themselves and the nation.

The only reason I would ever want the NY Yankees to win it all this year is only if it would alleviate any of the pain and suffering...allowing one to forget for even a brief moment...the hell all have been through.

Otherwise, down with the Yankees! Go Stros! :p

Are the Mets a New York team? I would not have said the same thing if another New York team had won. Hell, I was rooting for the Mariners.
