I think the Republicans will trot out a lot of people but Mark Racicot of Montana ultimately will be the man. Depending whether Colin Powell and/or John Ashcroft steps down, President Bush will name him Secretary of State or Attorney General.

If Racicot becomes Secretary of State, he will gain all the foreign policy credentials he needs. He was governor of Montana and GOP party chairman so he already has experience in domestic leadership. If the President names him Attorney General, that will terminate his fast track to the Presidency.

If Racicot loses to anyone, he will lose out to Bill Frist.

God, I can't believe Rudy "blame it on the troops" Giuliani has taken the early lead. On second thought, I shouldn't be surprised in the least bit.

For some reason I don't trust Rudy Giuliani.

How about Dwight D. Eisenhower? I don't believe he ever held an elective office lower than President of the United States.

I think being Supreme Allied Commander of one of the most important wars in the history of the world is pretty substantial. Though Marshall really did move Eisenhower forward a little fast.

I don't believe Supreme Allied Commander was an elective office. I didn't say he wasn't well known or without leadership credentials.

I'm surprised Bill Owens is on there. I heard some buzz from people in CO that he has some sort of sex scandal looming.

Mayor of New York is probably a bigger responsibility then Governor of some small state like Rhode Island

Washington had elective history in the Virginia House of Burgesses before the War for Independence.

Zell Miller, man, watching that guy speak is hilarious. The guy on SNL has his impersonation down, even turns red in the process.

Apologies. I thought we were talking about being elected President of the United States from the lowest (elective) political office. Never having been elected seemed pretty lowly.:D
