I'd have to go along with the consensus that Ryan Leaf is the biggest NFL draft bust of ALL-Time(to date)! His story is well chronicled; it's just a sad waste of talent. However, how can these "busts" be overlooked: 1. Heath Shuler - QB(Redskins) 2. Ki-Jana Carter - RB(Bengals) 3. Tony Mandarich - OT(Packers) So who do you consider to be the biggest NFL draft bust, EVER? Let's keep the choices in the 1st round since those are typically considered the best of the best.
Ryan Leaf is definately amongst the top of all-time NFL busts. SportsCenter re-ran a list of the biggest busts that they ran back near the draft and Mandarich, Shuler, and Leaf were all in the top 5 - if they weren't the top 3.
While not in the same level of bust as Leaf, etc., I'd say Alonzo Highsmith was something of a bust given how high he was drafted.
Aundray Bruce- LB 1st overall pick by my Atlanta Falcons. What? You've never heard of him? Good reason for that, he SUCKED!!
What about Todd Blackledge and Tony Eason. Blackledge was in the draft that had a bunch of QBs. Anyone remember Andre Ware and David Klingler - both huge disappointments.
Heath Shuler, over Ryan Leaf purely based on the fact that Heath was a number 1 pick. Wilinson has become a very productive and essential player in DC. Todd didnt waste away into nothingness, he had a productive career as a backup and spot starter. Akili Smith has had what 1 year? But could be on the list. KiJana Carter...not really his fault. Too bad about all those injuries. Lawrence Phillips based on talent and inability to get himself straight. Andray Bruce...now theres a name I never thought Id hear again. Alonzo Highsmity had some good years. Of the players mentioned so far, Heath Shuler walks away with the prize.
Just thought of some more: 1. Tim Biatbakatuba(?) - RB , Panthers 2. Shante Carter - DE , my Cowboys 3. Art Schlister - QB, Colts 4. Rick Mirer - QB, Seahawks 5. Rasheed Salaam - RB, Bears *I guess we could always use more guys stocking at Wal-Mart!
That Underwood dude the Vikings drafted in the first round a few years ago who left to be a priest then when off the rails and attempted suicide
What about that Todd Mariniovich guy. I don't recall what pick he was, but he was a bust. He's bumping around the Arena leagues now. DAVID CARR Just kidding, not him.
Yeah, I'd consider him a bust just like Quentin Coryatt and Broderick Thomas. LBs billed as the next LT(yeah, right!)
I hate to admit it as a 'Horn, but Johnny "Lam" Jones(WR) was another big bust. 2nd overall pick in 1980 by the Jets. Anyone remember him?
Where is former Longhorn WR Kwame Cavil been? I remember he was a street free agent that tried out for the Texans. I didn't really follow college football til about 1998 when the Aggies went to the Sugar Bowl. I did watch the Big XII championship game between The Longhorns and the Cornhuskers I think, at the Alamodome. What was the name of that one play they keep mentioning?
