If the player complains, tell them to tough it out, it’s a man’s league. If there are phantom calls, it’s just a part of the game and it will even out / and blah blah about how there is a foul in every play in the NBA and you just have to let them play, yada yada yada…. NBA front office has their talking point 360 to nullify any criticism of how they edit and rig the games. The NBA sells a product that guarantees viewership on TV. And how is it going to get them if most NBA fans are mostly invested only in their own team because of and 82 game fatigue! Well they create villains, heroes, storylines, a lot of water down WWE/WWF style. And the sabotage instrument is the referee, who will take the fall if the gig is up; all he gets is a fine or a suspension (but notice they hardly ever get disciplined! That’s because JVG broke the 5th wall, like in Hollywood where the character talks directly to the audiences exposing the fiction. When I was younger, it seemed folks held referees and the league in a “Wizard of Oz” position, all powerful and infallible. But like Toto (JVG) pulling the curtain, it has made for fun edited sports drama. It’s still fun to watch NBA basketball, but results seem to be carefully crafted with meticulously placed characters. Guaranteeing viewership, athleticism, drama, and most importantly &$$$$$$$
Look, let's just be fully honest here: all the players, coaches and everyone involved knows that they are part of an ENTERTAINMENT PRODUCT first and foremost. Anyone who's part of the league and not willing to acknowledge this FACT - which it is - is just in de ****ING nial. From the star calls, to keeping games close for ratings, attempt to extend series, ref players and teams differently based on reputation, relationship with referees (coach and or team) and marketability etc. They are all part of it, get paid to put on a show and while I'm sure referees are doing their best to be fair, they also are instructed to call and not call certain things to serve the main goal: making good Television for ratings and in the end money. Hence why nobody really goes against this and any attempt to do so is hypocritical. JVG is the only one who came close to being truly honest about the league with his exposure of the handling of Yao.But in the end, the NBA is by design a flawed or corrupt league.
