    EXCLUSIVE – Two senior Justice Department officials have confirmed to Fox News that the department's Office of Inspector General is reviewing the role played in the Hillary Clinton email investigation by Peter Strzok, a former deputy director for counterintelligence at the FBI who was removed from the staff of Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III earlier this year, after Mueller learned that Strzok had exchanged anti-Trump texts with a colleague.

    A source close to the matter said the OIG probe, which will examine Strzok's roles in a number of other politically sensitive cases, should be completed by "very early next year."

    The task will be exceedingly complex, given Strzok's consequential portfolio. He participated in the FBI's fateful interview with Hillary Clinton on July 2, 2016 – just days before then-FBI Director James Comey announced he was declining to recommend prosecution of Mrs. Clinton in connection with her use, as secretary of state, of a private email server.

    As deputy FBI director for counterintelligence, Strzok also enjoyed liaison with various agencies in the intelligence community, including the CIA, then led by Director John Brennan.

    Key figure

    House investigators told Fox News they have long regarded Strzok as a key figure in the chain of events when the bureau, in 2016, received the infamous anti-Trump "dossier" and launched a counterintelligence investigation into Russian meddling in the election that ultimately came to encompass FISA surveillance of a Trump campaign associate.

    The "dossier" was a compendium of salacious and largely unverified allegations about then-candidate Trump and others around him that was compiled by the opposition research firm Fusion GPS. The firm's bank records, obtained by House investigators, revealed that the project was funded by the Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee.

    House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes, R-Calif., has sought documents and witnesses from the Department of Justice and FBI to determine what role, if any, the dossier played in the move to place a Trump campaign associate under foreign surveillance.

    Strzok himself briefed the committee on Dec. 5, 2016, the sources said, but within months of that session House Intelligence Committee investigators were contacted by an informant suggesting that there was “documentary evidence” that Strzok was purportedly obstructing the House probe into the dossier.

    In early October, Nunes personally asked Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein – who has overseen the Trump-Russia probe since the recusal of Attorney General Jeff Sessions – to make Strzok available to the committee for questioning, sources said.

    Trump must be feeling the heat as I see a pattern here...... a hand picked campaign associate gets arrested and a new Hillary article comes out by Fox!!!!!

    I mean this is Nunes led right.... the GOP congressman who had to recuse himself is now back in this.... yet you complain about impartiality.....

    Is he working on the Mueller probe anymore?

    Why is Nunes, who had to recuse himself still involved... speaking of partiality?

    It taints the impartiality of the team's results. It's an amateurish move on your part to try to shift the story to Mueller as opposed to the team's findings. I certainly won't fall for your weak little trap. Poor try on your part.

    I don't understand why you all bother wasting your time arguing with this poster. There are criteria to determine if it's worth your time:

    1. The poster has had to admitted being wrong in the past - at least once. Because none of us have been 100% correct.
    2. The poster actually debates the issue 75% of the time; if they spend 75% of their time hurling out insults, it means they have weak arguments and are not worth your time.
    3. The poster has to have give the other side their fair due at least once.

    The original poster fits none of these categories. There are probably a few others, but I know for a fact that ipaman, ATW, tallanover- heck, even Bobby the Great kinda sorta admitted he was wrong once.

    This poster is that one poster that you can never count on to listen to your side. His mind is made up 100% and so, what's the point? It's useless.

    So, y'all can prove him wrong as much as you want (b/c he is wrong multiple times in any given month), but it's really just a waste of time.

    The pinnacle of irony are that the very first words of this thread title, Bias and Lost Credibility, are the 2 defining characteristics of the poster who started the thread.

    John Oliver had a great analysis. Repubs (and esp Trump) use three tactics:
    1. Blame the media
    2. Whataboutism (bring up some other non-related incident to distract from the point at hand)
    3. Trolling

    Bigtexxx going with playbook #2 on this one. But txtony threw in a little #1 into the mix.

    This says "lost credibility" but that suggests that there was credibility to start with. The obvious conflict of interest from the start ensured no credibility from the start.

    That said it's good that at least one of those involved outed themselves in order to get tossed out.
