You know, to this day I've never seen that movie simply because all of my college music professors basically ripped it to shreds and forbid us to see it. I may have to check it out since none of them can get to me anymore.

Yeah, that scene may be my favorite one in the whole movie. I read somewhere that Tom Everett Scott actually learned to play the drums just for this movie. Dude has some pretty good chops for a novice.

right. this isn't my topic I was just thinking the OP wanted stories about completely fictional musical bands or entities....

like the music in the film had to have ben made up to fit within the world of the film...

That's the reason my professors looked down on it so much. And I don't really need to Google it since I was a music major in college. :)

    Coal Miner's Daughter

This is one of my favorite movies of all time and probably the only reason I like any country music. It turned me on to Patsy Cline.

Would that qualify as fiction? Maybe Fictionalized but I thought it was about
    the real person

How about this one? The music kicked ass in a glam-y sort of way.

To add a recent movie to the list, I thought the indie film Once was pretty good.

Mine did, too. The real travesty is how it painted Salieri as such a villain. Still, historical slander aside, it's one of my favorite movies of all time.

A fictional account, but yes, it's about the real person.

Nice follow-up to Summer School. I don't know what I want more: to watch this movie, or just be transported, back in time, to when this movie would have been considered cool/funny/marketable.
