Haven't seen much mention of Norm MacDonald. He's one of the few comedians I think breaks a lot of rules like laughing at his own skit while performing it and it only adds to the hilarity. I don't think he's for everyone as some of his more troll like jokes can be hit or miss to me. I just think he's a great story teller that has a unique delivery and really spends a lot of time crafting a joke like this. I also like that he doesn't pander to his audience. He really believes in his jokes even when he bombs on set. I just have a lot of respect for the way he carries himself on stage.

If this thread extended to the 90s I'd throw in Damon Wayans. IMO he was a 90s iteration of what Chappelle would later become with the Chappelle Show. In Living Color was the Chappelle Show before the Chappelle Show.

Also agree with whoever said Patrice O'Neal. His one hour long special where he talks about not being around much longer was ominous given his health complications but this little bit from it still makes me laugh.

I would say Louis CK. Before him Patrice. Best comedian these days is Shane Gillis and it’s not even close.

Anything other than Dave Chappelle as the answer is an absolute travesty.

We’re blessed with a LOT of funny people, but Chappelle is just a genius. It’s not really fair to compare him with anyone else.

    Dave Chapelle obviously.

But been watching a lot of Nate Bargatze lately.

I'm also a big Jim Gaffigan fan.

The best roasting comic of all time was the late, great Greg Giraldo.

the special really picked up the 2nd half.

do you listen to Matt and Shane’s secret podcast? If not I’m so jealous that you’ve yet to experience the greatness of the shaman, Matt McCusker.

I’m seeing him perform in Austin on 12/2 and then Shane in sugar land on 12/9. Funniest dudes on the scene today.

I haven't heard that pod but will check it out.

Didn't know Shane was coming to Sugar Land (again). IIRC, he was there a year or so ago and by the time I heard about it, tickets were sold out. I'll look into going this time.

Related: I actually just bought tickets last night to Tim Dillon who's coming to Houston Improv in mid-November.
