    I didn't think you had to have someone's Bird's rights to sign-and-trade them. They just have to be your free agent (i.e., playing for your team when the contract expired), right?

    TraJ is correct. Bird Rights are not needed for a sign and trade.

    On another interesting sign and trade note, you can sign and trade a renounced player. That might come in handy if Shandon or Mo wanted to jump ship...
