I'd give up Hidalgo, Ensberg, and Redding for him.. I'm sure KC would trade a superstar outfielder for an overpaid terrible outfielder, a pretty weak third baseman, and a scrub pitcher...
Not a chance I hate to say it but it does not look good for Dalgy. We just have to swallow this one. Bummer.
Since when did Carlos Beltran become a superstar outfielder? Yeah, he's really good - but lets not go overboard.
Hidalgo's a terrible outfielder? I thought he was considered one of the stronger arms in the NL? If all you wanted was an arm out there, you'd put Oswalt out in the outfield. Nice arms are useful, but only if the player can hit. Hidalgo, for $12 million, has not shown any real ability to do that. hidalgo will turn it around. Well then why do we want Beltran? and Ensberg isn't weak. This is a guy with an OPS under 0.700, and a slugging % of .355. Outside of a great 2 months last year, he has shown nothing at the MLB level, and he's well beyond the age of a young high-potential prospect. Since when did Carlos Beltran become a superstar outfielder? Yeah, he's really good - but lets not go overboard. He might be the best all-around centerfielder in baseball (certainly one of the top 2 or 3). I'll put that in the superstar category.
Agreed...Beltran is definitely in the top 3 all around CF's in baseball today...especially offensively
I disagree, I simply think it means that there aren't that any great centerfielders in baseball right now - if Andruw Jones hit better it would be different. He has above-average power, but he doesn't hit a lot of extra-base hits, he'll draw some walks, but not a terribly high amount of them - he plays good defense, but not Andruw Jones-type defense. He does several things well, but nothing great. Nothing that makes him a Superstar. He's a good player, and would be a big-time upgrade in center and at the top of the order - but he's NOT a superstar - and to get him we'd have to pay Kansas City like he was - then give him an extension that treats him like one.
