Well, my Wildcats made it to Houston. Great timing for me to have just moved here. Being that I am new to Houston, I don't know much about the area. Are there any good bars close to Reliant? I know of Washington Ave and what not, but that's a bit far from the stadium. TIA
Go North on Kirby from the stadium, take a right on University or Rice Blvd and you will find Rice Village.
Why would you want to be so close to the stadium, where traffic is going to be an issue before and after the game?
I know it's a bit out of the way but you may want to head downtown to the Flying Saucer and then take the light rail to the game(s). The rail lets you off basically on the doorstep, well a little walking involved, however it can get packed.
Based on what it's like during Texans, it shouldn't be that bad to go north on Kirby to Rice Village, at least once out of the parking lot mess. Most of the traffic is trying to take Kirby/Fannin/Main to 610.
I would highly reccommend light rail for the game. Traffic is going to be horrendous. Go to midtown before and after game, walk 4 blocks to light rail. Avoid hassle.
Oh, well in that case Rice Village is kinda far for walking distance (2-3 miles). You might be better off taking the Rail to Main Street downtown or midtown.
like other have said...rice village is your best bet. Gingermans for a great beer selection Oneil's - pub with tvs and decent bar food...they use to have a little band area on the weekends Woodrows - laid back bar.
Light rail downtown to the Saucer or the Village like everyone says. Avoid Reliant at all costs I drove by there last night it was already a cluster@#$%
Get the rail at Preston(I believe) or the next street and Main, it's a few blocks from the Saucer but not to bad. If you choose Midtown then not exactly sure where the closest pickup spot is but like Matt said, it's only about 4 blocks down.
Ride the lightrail to midtown or downtown, pretty much your only options for easy bar hopping (i.e. no car involved) from Reliant.
If you are wanting to park at the stadium since you are getting there early, you can get on the rail at Fannin on the West side of the stadium and take it to downtown. What Matt was implying was to park in midtown or downtown, and ride the rail to the stadium and back to avoid all congestion. Rail Map
