For now. He's promised that he'll be back in a year or two.

400k is not chump change. Why gamble all of it when you can invest it?

It's sad how so many people in the united states are living paycheck to paycheck and there are people who can afford to waste 400k every time they go to a casino.

lets not point the finger at the gamblers pal. those people who work in construction, food, beverage, dealers, house keepers, and the entire city rely on gamblers.

$400k is not chump change to you, but high rollers and whales drop way more money than Chuck. its just more public since he's a famous NBA player.

they have overseas high rollers coming in dropping 2 million per trip. why? cause they can.

are these people doing anything bad to society? are they drug dealers.

don't point your righteous fingers at the gamblers. they aren't whats wrong with society.

what is work for your money? if being smart and buying loads of google stock and getting rich is not working, then i'll pick not working.

charles barkley earned his wealth and unless you know his bank accounts, you have no idea how much money he has.

this goes back to the greatest philosopher of our time,
    bobby brown,
    "I made this money , you didn't " - my prerogative

Props to Barkley for manning up to this & saying more than one "Its my falt"

Most people would point the finger but he didn't; he understands the situation & will try to get it in controll.

However, not calling Barkley a lier but this just came out:

Vegas casino, DA deny Barkley paid gambling debt

LAS VEGAS (AP)—A Nevada prosecutor and a Las Vegas Strip casino say Charles Barkley hasn’t settled his $400,000 gambling debt, despite what he said on television.

Officials with the Wynn Las Vegas resort and the Clark County district attorney’s office say there’s been no payment and no contact with the former NBA star and TV analyst.

During Turner Network Television’s pre-game show before the NBA playoffs Monday, Barkley said the debt had been paid and he was giving up gambling.

The Wynn Las Vegas resort alleges in a civil complaint filed May 14 in Nevada state court that Barkley failed to repay four $100,000 casino markers, or loans, received last Oct. 18 and 19.

District Attorney David Roger has promised to file a criminal complaint if Barkley doesn’t pay up by June 9.

Personally I don't understand the appeal of gambling. I've been dragged to a couple casinos in my time and the first time that dealer took my money (which was right away, of course) I wanted to kill the guy. Paying some guy to win his own rigged game isn't my idea of a great time, even if the booze is free. Obviously, others feel much differently. I can't imagine that betting $100,000 is 100,000 times more fun than betting $1; clearly Chuck is chasing some kind of fix. I always liked Barkley and I hope he doesn't screw himself over. He'll never be out of work if he doesn't want to be but living under heavy debt changes your lifestyle quick. Casinos must be a lot of fun for some folks, considering guys like tinman go regularly, but they're certainly not your friends.

    hippie,

it depends on your experience. its thrill of winning and the fun you have with others. i agree that you shouldn't gamble your life savings away. are the odds against you? of course. do you win? of course. do you lose? of course. its the opportunity that you have of winning and beating the odds is the thrill.
anything you do, you do in moderation. if you do too much or too little, its no fun.

i assume by your moniker 'hippie' that its not for you. then of course, you have never experienced a hot roller on the craps table going for 1 hour, turning that $100 you put into $1500. and sometimes its not about that. its about losing lots of money only to win it all back and get back to zero.
i'm going next month. mandalay bay.

You believe a gambler when he says he's done gambling? I wanted to laugh, but it's too sad to laugh.

tinman, yeah, the entire city relies on the gamblers. If there were no criminals, where would all the police, prison guards, lawyers etc. find a job? We should all thank the crooks for creating so many wonderful jobs in our society.

You just now said the people of Vegas depend on the gamblers. As if the economy would grind to a halt without gamblers. :)

btw, for one dollar that goes to pay the salary of the avg casino worker, how much money do you think go to the casino owners?

I have nothing against gamblers. I have nothing about stupid gamblers who keep losing either. It's fine if they continue to gamble but at the same time, they are still idiots. :)

gambling is the main revenue stream for nevada and the feds. tax monies go to benefit the public.

just wanted to point that out, in addition to fueling the city and its workers. kinda makes me feel a lil better even when i lose.

    you know what's funny ibm
is the people who don't gamble or go to vegas
claiming to know stuff about gambling and vegas

its like the fake clutchfans who never saw the great rocket teams
    they act like they know
    but they don't know

some people think vegas is bad cause it exploits greed and excess
they don't see it for it is, a place made for fun
people go there for fun, not to be some uptight self righteous
heal the world meditating yoga and yogurt eating punk

    1) Barkley is an idiot. Just because he makes money playing BB does not exempt him from being an idiot.

    2) Other millionaires and billionares could be idiots as well. Just because they are smart in business/ industries do not exempt them from being idiots at gambling.

Like I said, gamble all you want. Do it smart. If you can win, great. If you lose a little but had a good time, ok. When you lose $10 mil and don't know you are sucker then the description fits.

its just money. when a guy buys 22inch rims that cost more than a toyota Yaris. is he an idiot?

    or is he just rich?

some people choose what to spend their money on. in the end, the money doesn't follow you to the afterworld. so criticizing people on what they spend is dumb. do i think chuck is going broke?

the only stupid thing he did was not pay them back in a timely manner.

why spend $100 on gas when you can walk? people who drive are idiots right?

The gambling critics here don't seem to get the point that many casino patrons do. Do think you're geniuses realizing your most likely going to lose money?

I go to a casino to play some games. The fee to play these games are my bets. Over the course of a few hours I may win or lose some money. If win or break even, bonus! If I lose money, that was the cost to have some fun for a few hours.

Yes, some idiots go to a casino with the sole goal of making a profit. Many go to have a good time and are willing to pay the costs associated with it.
