The lineup is out. I'm not overly thrilled, but I'm sure it will grow on me over time. http://lineup.aclfestival.com/
Not too excited, if a couple of these acts (Neil Young, The Shins, Delta Spirit . . .) fall on the same day I'll go, but other than that MEH.
It's not bad, Gotye has the biggest song of the year right now, Weezer, The Roots, Gambino, and Black Keys are probably the ones I would want to go to.
Really? I think this is the type of lineup that made this festival great in the early years of it. As it progressively went towards the flavor-of-the-month bands, it got worse and worse. I was planning to skip for the first time. Now I'm reconsidering. There's some soul in this one that has been missing for the last 5 or 6 years. At an absolute minimum, I will be there whatever day Neil Young plays. He's one on my bucket list of artists. RHCP used to be. I was somewhat obsessed with them until One Hot Minute happened.
Just saw Chili Peppers and Jack White at Hangout Music Fest and they were both awesome. Josh Klinghoffer was an awesome choice for the peppers new guitarist and he put on a great show as did Flee and Chad. Jack White was ofcourse awesome as well. I would definitely see them both again at ACL as well as Neil Young. Throw in M83, Bassnectar, Crystal Castles, Thievery Corp, Iggy Pop, the Roots, Alabama Shakes and M Ward, I am pumped for this line up. It is a bit top heavy but I like to spend my day time of ACL finding new acts I can enjoy in the future. If you cant have a good time with this line up, you are a sad, sad person. You are most likely one of those persons that thinks everything sucks and never has a lack of a reason to complain about 90% of your life.
Or you would just prefer not to stand out in a field in 90+ degree heat, lining up for porta-potties, and dodging piles of puke and loaded tweeny boppers in order to hear live music.....
This x 1,000. The show's just too damn big now. The ACL experience takes away from any enjoyment of the music. Went last year (which wasn't blazingly hot), and still doubt I would ever go again.
Avett, Punch Bros, Needtobreathe, and Wombats are some of the bands I'd want to see that I haven't already. Would still enjoy catching Shins Weezer Roots Umphrey's Wouldn't mind Red Hot California Peppers Black Keys Civil Wars Out of the lesser known acts, who's worth checking out? ...and I'm amazed Andrew Bird still has a career. Lame.
Headliners are solid but the depth isn't there for me (its all ****ing personal taste). Still a great music festival. Not necessarily more attractive to me than any of the years past.
I wouldn't mind seeing the Black Keys, Jack White, and Gary Clark Jr. Other than those guys, the rest are pretty damn "meh." Although, I do like Childish Gambino and Big K.R.I.T's music.... still I have no interest in seeing them perform.
Uhhh, I love both but seriously? New Orleans in May. New Orleans. In. May. And you say, Jazzfest does not have heat, vomit & nasty port-a-potties? Please let me know what Bizarro-world version of Jazzfest you attended.
I have a feeling you've only gone to the first ACL...which was horribly organized. Pretty much everyone since has done pretty well in that regard. The way they've spread out the headliners has made a huge difference in the ability to leave at night. There are about as many port-o-pots that they could physically fit. Food lines are reasonable as long as you don't have to go to whatever the most popular of the day is (I always seem to be able to walk right to the front for a hamburger or slice of pizza...I don't need free range organic kettle corn). I'll take Austin in October over New Orleans in May any time.
