He's just not a good enough hitter to provide value from the DH spot. Not good enough at defense to play elsewhere.

Yes, you get an arm upgrade... but its not like Altuve is struggling to play a good 2nd base (and with the shifts, he usually doesn't have far to travel).

 

Bregman is a stud defending the line at 3B and making the long off balance throws, anybody who wants to mess with that is insane

 

Anyone have a list of potential bats that may be available at the deadline - ideally the expiring contract rental types that won’t cost a lot?

 

Nelson Cruz, Manny Machado, Jed Lowrie, Adrian Beltre off the top of my head.

 

Need the hitting version of a Justin Verlander trade.

 

Don’t think Machado will be plausible for cost reasons and Seattle will probably hang around the WC so Cruz probably won’t be available. I think Adam Jones may be a FA after this year so if anyone from the Orioles maybe him?

Would definitely take Beltre - he should be cheap and would fit in on this team. Plus it’d be his last shot at a championship most likely so could be the “Verlander” Nick is looking for. Lowrie would be better than what we have but idk if he would want to DH and/or be a good DH - would be hilarious trading for him again though.

 

Beltre makes sense except I have a hard time seeing the Rangers doing anything that might help Houston win another World Series. But Beltre could play 3B/DH, with Bregman switching into Marwins everyday utility role and Marwin taking LF and Gattis getting fewer AB. Call me crazy but I wouldn’t mind taking both Beltre and Choo if the Rangers were desperate to unload Choo’s contract. Choo, Beltre, and Cole Ragans for Gattis, Sipp, and Fisher?

 

Eh I'd pass on Choo. I don't think they would really care honestly given they should start the rebuild process if they are smart - Beltre holds zero value for them and I doubt teams will be lining up to get him. I'd definitely be down to give them Fisher for Beltre - I don't think we can afford watching him going through these growing pains especially considering Tucker should be up at some point. If that's not enough maybe they'd take Fisher and someone like Kemp for him.

They better give us Beltran AND some prospects if I’m taking that

In a vacuum Choo could help, but lord no on that contract

 

I see teams do this all the time.

 

The Rangers will trade him where they get the best offer, they aren’t worried about fans reactions

Hell if GMs worried about fans we would likely have Sonny Gray or Quintana and not Verlander right now

 

Baltimore isn’t the easiest to deal with

But a final year Adam Jones would look pretty good in LF

I think Boar would cost more in prospects than we would be willing to go.

I think at this point we are more likely to get a last year guy than to give up more for a controlled guy. Just my opinion, wouldn’t be against adding Boar to the lineup

I would be willing to give Fisher and a couple of non top 10 guys for Jones and a guy like O’Day

 

I think Alvarez is gonna be a stud, but that would make some sense for both sides
