Strikes me as a bad optics trade for the O's. I don't necessarily disagree that McHugh and Moran could produce more WAR than Britton next year but from a PR standpoint it stinks. Trading a former all-star closer for a MOR and a not super high upside corner infielder ain't gonna win a lot of fans.
Don't think anyone is ranking Moran as a top 100 prospect anymore Also didn't the orioles owner veto a deal for just Britton because a top prospect wasn't included (going off of memory here)? Edit: Deleted repeated post
Did I miss an extended stretch of AB’s for him? I remember him hitting his first HR in the orioles series, but I thought that was the same series that he got hurt. Ultimately, Moran, Reed, White, even Fisher... AAA depth for big league injuries with the possibility of a late bloom.
No. He’s not. In fantasy land it would be great to have him. But it’s just not realistic. Either you have to absorb the entirety of his $290 million deal or the Marlins pick up a significant portion and you give up AT LEAST Whitley and Tucker for him. But the Marlins reportedly want to get rid of the salary more than they want to keep his contract on the books while landing a huge prospect package. All that to say, the Astros do not fit the profile of a team capable/willing to trade for him.
MLBTR listed Houston in the 2nd tier of fits for Stanton. But I agree he is simply too expensive. If they know for sure they can’t re-sign any of their core and simply want to maximize their window, he’d make an interesting add. Adding a hall of fame hitter in his prime could give them the greatest offense in the history of the game.
Imagine Stanton, Pujols, Trout taking up 100 million of the cap per year. What a joke. Angels love mediocrity.
If your the Dodgers, why not unload Joc Pederson and Bellinger for him. You can absorb that disgusting pay roll, and it sure seems like Bellinger is due for some nice regression next year.
Possible but that would be something they could regret in future years. But... Stanton will Stanton and LA has no problem paying the luxury tax. Purely a Magic Johnson move.
No chance LA pays that much luxury tax. They have a smart front office now and can improve team without paying 145 million in luxury tax in addition to their existing taxes.
Yep. They've been operating trying to get more bang for the buck for a while...though still going to pay lots of bucks....just smartly
It really is amazing how much money the Dodgers spent on player that were of little to no help in the WS. Adrian Gonzalez 22 Carl Crawford 22 Scott Kazmir 18 Andre Eithier 18 Brandon McCarthy 12 Hyun Jin-Ryu 8 Hector Olivera 5 Erisbel Arruebuerrana 5 Matt Kemp 4 That's 114 million dollars. Rich clubs can really f**k things up with the bad contracts and dance right around it.
Looking at the homer overlay quickly, two non-homers would become homers and two homers would be warming track in MMP.
That is the big difference between big market and smaller market teams. Big market teams can just spend more while a smaller market team would just be stuck. Unfortunately, the bigger markets are getting smarter on where to spend.
I wonder what it would take to get Salvador Perez from KC. Why it makes some sense: Houston has a long term need at catcher with McCann/Gattis aging and nearing free agency and no premium catching prospects in the system. Perez is avery good, young, and under cheap control through 2021. KC is rebuilding. Perez and Altuve are good friends. Perez hits left handed. Would Fisher, Paulino, Moran, and C Perez get it done? IF not does swapping Martes for Paulino make sense? What about Tucker and Martes for Perez and Kelvin Herrera? If they traded for him then McCann/Gattis could just split DH and backup C duties.
