Damn. I love Abreu but I think this is a solid trade. McCann brings a veteran presence and good LHH bat to the lineup.
Just glad they didn't go overboard and offer up one of the top 5 prospects. Abreu is definitely a tradable piece.
Love this trade. Get a veteran quality bag for two prospects that, quite frankly, probably won't be missed very much.
Considering Castro was projected to get more than 12 a year I'll take it. I don't mind a few minor signings (Morton/McCann) as long as it doesnt prevent us from some big ones. I really want one of: Cespedes/Fowler/1B and a Pitcher either picked up or traded for.
Just to clarify, I don't care who we gave up. I just hate McCann and I think he will decline quickly.
I was worried to open this because I remembered seeing the tweet "Yankees will throw in money if top prospects included, I do not consider those top prospects. People need to let go of some of the farm.
We basically just replaced Castro with a slightly better hitter.. He will platoon just as much, not as good defensively, but Lefty bat. And it was for the same price I bet.. Gattis couldn't do every game.
It's still not a good deal if he's as bad as he was last year, contract wise. Assuming $7.5 mil per WAR, which is the going rate, he should be paid like $6.75 mil based on last year. If he can recover to 2015 numbers or close to it (2.8 WAR), it'll be a bargain. Let's hope for a bounce back season.
McCann just won the Silver Slugger award for catcher in 2015. He's a left handed bat and a vet that can hopefully add some leadership. This is worth a gamble.
It's happening! and you people called the owner cheap, can't even afford wooden hangers for the club house ya'll said. Make it rain! praise baby heyzeus. Laying off the heroine now.
