It's been pretty even b/t the leagues for the past decade, but the stolen base has fallen out of favor throughout baseball. It's still highly valuable weapon in certain situations.

All of this NL vs AL style stuff is moot anyway, the NL will adopt the DH sooner rather than later.

Good. Be done with it already. They merged literally everything else between the leagues. No reason this is still a thing. I've come around on the DH as watching pitchers hit is just sad.

Same. I was not a fan of AL rules, but I've totally come around to it.

I love Jim Crane and wish Cal McNair and Tilman Fertitta would take notes from him.

And if Crane had any respect for the league he and his organization so stressed, he would have chosen as Luhnow’s successor someone not currently holding such a pivotal role in such a pivotal time as James Click. He could have hired former San Francisco Giants GM Bobby Evans or pulled Peter Woodfork or Kim Ng from MLB’s executive ranks, all of whom are wholly qualified. He could have ridden the past administration, dangerous as that might have been, with Pete Putila.

So, that is unfair to James Click. He, his career, should not have to suffer the wounds incurred from the Astros’ ethical and leadership lapses. He, of course, had no choice but to accept. And congratulations to him.

And that’s the thing. It should not ever have been offered.

If we had rolled with Putila they would have complained that we aren't interest in changing and are happy with our toxic culture.

All year, every thing we do. Our front office could cure cancer and people would whine about how we shouldn't have been allowed to do so.

The Astros were supposed to hire one of the 3-4 mediocre candidates that the MLB office suggested. The Astros would then fade into irrelevance and repent for their sins for the next decade. Ending with Jim Crane selling the team to someone that met the satisfaction of baseball writers and the MLB offices.

Pretty much, which is why we're all in f**k everyone mode at this point.

I get being angry, they have a right, but it's long since passed into crazy lynch mob status. Skewed stats, crackpot theories, lazy journalism, and a million other things that wouldn't be tolerated under normal circumstances are being roundly circulated and praised.

The problem I have with it is that:

#1 It is well known that a large number of teams have cheated in a similar way, including the Yankees and Red Sox and Dodgers.

#2 There has been virtually no articles on the Red Sox involvement and 2018 World Series title. Their manager is the mastermind of the entire scheme. There is no discussion of them firing their GM out of the blue either.

#3 At what point do the nasty articles stop. It is virtue signaling by a group or arrogant writers. What makes it worse is that MLB employs many of those writers.

Crane did what MLB wanted, he fired the best GM in baseball and likely the best manager in baseball. He hired the coach that MLB and the press wanted. He went outside the organization and hired someone from a clean organization and who is well thought of.

Bahahaha this just shows you, once the media puts it in their brain that they're going to go after a franchise, it doesn't matter what happens they will find a way to cry.

"Hinch and Luhnow should lose their jobs!!" Ok they did. Now it's "they should only be allowed to hire a s***ty general manager!" Maybe if the lynch mob didn't relentlessly call for the hammer to be dropped on the organization, Luhnow would not have been suspended in the first place, the punishment would not have been so severe in order to placate the mob, and Crane would not be put in a position (through you know, the concept of free enterprise) to hire whoever the eff he wants to look over his team.

    Eff em all....we back baby!

The Houston Astros needed a general manager. He’d be somebody to steer the franchise toward a little dignity, around the draft vacancies and talent craters sure to come, and away from the self-inflicted humiliation reflecting from recent seasons. Guy’s not going to sleep much, in part because the roster he inherited seems to have overrun the manager who just left. There’s a lot to do. A lot to fix. A lot to heal.

First. I like how the writer is going on a politically correct rant but immediately refers to whomever the Astros would hire as "he".

Second, a "little dignity" "self -inflicted humiliation" "A lot to heal" ? The Astros are a baseball team. They are not a mass shooter. Those terms should be reserved for important things.

"draft vacancies and talent craters sure to come" ...... Dramatic much? Yes not having a #1 or #2 pick the next two years will hurt but it will not destroy the system like some think. It is only for two years. The Astros will likely lose one regular controllable starting player out of that.

Guy’s not going to sleep much, in part because the roster he inherited seems to have overrun the manager who just left. .....No, he will get to sleep well because he has probably the best offense in baseball. He also has one of the 5 best pitching staff's in baseball. He is good.... he will sleep just fine.
