Wasn't saying he was- just saying AE's play nailing a speedy runner going away from the bag is just as big as taking away Doggy's HR. I was just about to compliment Wade, and here's a possible HR...wow, they waved it off!
wow... I guess this somewhat makes up for Doggy's HR. Get the bullpen up though. (Can we PLEASE see a replay... one on which the ball is in view?) EDIT: Wow... that was a damn good replay... FOUL BALL! And good... Miceli is comin in now.
I love when managers of last place teams get kicked out intentionally to make it seem as if they care... especially when the the manager has been criticized for being too laid backā¦
Man... Kent ties the club hitting streak on that?!? And now Berkman hits a bloop?!? I guess that Winn catch was the last straw for the baseball gods, on how many great plays are being made against us in the field.
But, i stand by my statement... get ahead in the count against any Astro besides Bagwell, and you're more than likely to get them out. Why is Bagwell exempt? He leads the team in strikeouts.
That's because he's doing a lot of swinging and missing of hittable pitches, and he's watching a lot of strike 3 calls. (he's really just not seeing a lot of balls well... especially since guys are just beating him with fastballs) I mean... he's not immune... he does swing at bad pitches too... but he's developed a great eye, and he's the only one on our team that is patient enough to try and work an 0-2 count to a 3-2 count by laying off bad pitches. He's also getting more AB's then Kent and Berkman... something that will soon change if this trend keeps up.
You're wrong. Statistically, Kent has a .903 OPS after falling behind 0-2. Berkman has a .932 OPS after 0-2. Bagwell is all the way down at .584. That's atrocious, and the worst on the team from what I've checked among the regular starters.
Haven -- where are you getting the stats from? "That's the best slider I've ever seen in my whole career," said Martinez, 40, whom Lidge struck out in the seventh inning Tuesday night. "His slider is amazing. The first pitch I swung at, I wasn't even close."
nm i forgot to check the chronicle thats great stuff this kid lidge makes me feel like he is a keeper i think if he stays healthy he will one challenge wagners record
.584 is way off. His OBP this year: .396 His Slg this year: .464 That means his OPS: .860 I have no clue where you got .584, maybe you meant .854?
WOW! I take it we won! SWEET! Winning streak! WHOOP! Time to go and read the chronicle's articles on the game. Let's go Stros!!!
He meant .584 as he was talking about what Bagwell's OBP is AFTER the count is 0-2. You can go to the ESPN web site. CLick on MLB. Click on players. Enter a player's name. Click on splits. Click on the year (in this case 2004). You can see all sorts of stats broken down.
I didnt think this needed its own thread... Jason Stark talks about the astros in his column. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=stark_jayson&id=1818887 Across the division, Jimy Williams appears to be in no imminent danger in Houston. But if the Astros continue to slide (and they were 10-15 since their 21-11 start), Williams' seat could get surprisingly hot. Given all their free agents and the Clemens-Pettitte buzz, this is a must-win year for Houston. Clubs that have spoken with the Astros say Williams is clearly running low on patience with Tim Redding and Brandon Duckworth, who was demoted Wednesday. But the Astros have no starters waiting in line in New Orleans, since Carlos Hernandez's comeback from shoulder surgery is going slower than they'd hoped. And it's still unclear whether owner Drayton McLane will give them the thumbs-up to make a deal. The Astros have concluded that both of Andy Pettitte's DL visits this year haven't been caused by pitching. They've been caused by hitting. So when Pettitte returns, it's a pretty safe bet you won't see him taking hacks quite as vociferous as, say, Vladimir Guerrero
