lol :\ bases loaded in the top of the 9th though maybe we can get a bigger lead so we can give it back
Apparently Gaetti and Ausmus have been doing some great work in BP... how come we never heard this sort of thing when Spilman was around? As bad as this team has been the last week, their offense has been suprisngly consistent: 4, 5, 6, 5 and 5 runs in the last 5 games is not bad (thanks to bullpen, only 2-3 in those games). Too bad they couldn't get Gary up here about a month earlier... guys like Ausmus, Everett and Ensberg could have REALLY beneffited... and when your bottom guys in the lineup stop hitting, everybody just seems to feed of that.
It may be a trunaround. But one that showed up too late. Unless we win like 20 in a row and the Cards play .500 ball or so, we don't have a chance. We must suddenly trun RED HOT.
I`m not quite ready to write them off just yet. If they go on a tear they can still contend for the wildcard spot. It will take a great finish, but I`m going to wait another week before I stick a fork in `em
The bad thing is that even if we went on a tear, there are a bunch of teams: San Diego San Francisco Chi Cubs Cincinnati Atlanta Milwaukee NY Mets Florida that would have to go into a mini-slump for us to catch and pass them. A few teams, maybe. All 8 teams, unlikely.
you see, we don't suck as bad as we thought...we beat a last place team, meaning, if we really sucked, we should have lost...
The cubs have been playing terrible ball too as of lately, so if we could turn it aroud and they continue to suck....well...just maybe.
Also, the key is how many games do we have left with each of the teams above us. I know we're done for the year with Florida and San Diego, thus it becomes that much tougher to catch those teams in the standings. (we have to win a lot, and hope for them to lose). The other teams, we can catch easily if we win the series against them (especially teams in our division like Milwaukee and Cincy, which we have a few games left with)... but winning a series hasn't been all that easy lately. Note: We've also yet to play Philly and Montreal... at all.
Probably not till early August. He just started throwing a ball last week... it will take him this week and part of next to build back some arm strength, and start throwing some bullpen sessions... then he'll go on a rehab assignment or two... and THEN he'll be able to start again.
Astros up 4-0. Two run shot by Everett followed by a foul line hugging bomb by Beltran. Oswalt looks sharp. Let's turn this thing around.
