I have watched the replay about 15 times. It really looks like he didn't get hit. from either angle. When the ball crosses where he is his head is tucked down.
Man... maybe they'll interview him afterwards, and we'll see his true reaction. Its pretty easy to tell when these guys are lying and got away w/ one...
I'm a Dan Wheeler fan now.... also I like it how none of the Cubs were backing up Remlinger. He seemed like a lone wolf out there (and even if the pitch didn't actually hit Berkman... and it only hit his head of a ricochet... the ball WAS STILL AROUND HIS HEAD... reckless.)
What a way to announce your presence to a new club. He just made some friends in teh clubhouse. I realy think the ejection rule is crap. One team gets a couple of free shots with no reprecussions (not that I think either was intentional). Then when we get them back we get punished. The rule is actually stupid.
Yea, how bout the umps. Mercker hits freaking Roy Oswalt, stays in the game. Berkman and Beltran get hit, they get a warning. But Derek Lee gets hit and its the end of the world. Take a look at the scoreboard, Cubbies.
Props to Derrick Lee. He knows how it works. He took the hit for his pitcher's recklessness and took his base like a man without hesitation.
I give a lot of credit to Derick Lee on that play... he knew it was coming, and once hit happend... he just walked to first. He know's that "that's baseball..." chances are if it was Barrett, or some other hot-head... you would have had mound charging, fights, etc. Edit: Damnit Codell... thanks for posting the exact same thing .
Nothing else suprises me from those morons in that booth. It was fun to be "homers" on a national broadcast when your team was no good, but now to hear them cheer each single like its a game winning hit (and on the contrary, announce each opposing team's HR like its a routine foul ball or something), its as annoying as it gets (in fact, even many Cubs fans downright loathe Chip Carrey). The ball probably ended up being more of a ricochet... but it was near his head, and any player is going to be dazed and on the ground when they get one that near to their helmet.
I was hoping Wheeler could have drilled Barrett right in his damn back. Thats a team full of idiots. I see why the Cards were cheering for the Stros to beat the Cubs last season even though they were out of the race.
Yeah, I just got off the phone with my Dad who lives in Chicago. He's always rooted for the Astros, but moreso lately just because I'm such a huge fan. He's always liked the Cubs, but not overly so. Yeah, he hates them now.
