Agreed - this is about as perfect a trade for the Astros as anyone could ask for. We solved a rosters number crunch, upgraded the team for the next two years, and gave up no key current or future pieces.
I read the trade last night and was stoked but initially semi-bummed due to their including Morton after how clutch he came up in the playoffs. Then I reread and realized I had misread Morton in place of Musgrove and just started laughing.
Via Mark Berman Joe Musgrove on being traded by #Astros to the #Pirates: "The initial impact of the thing was like a gut punch, especially after coming off the emotion and excitement of being at FanFest, getting to see everybody and hear stories. It was a little bit of a shock right away." Joe Musgrove: "I'm excited about the move. It's tough leaving Houston, going thru what we went thru last year w/the hurricane & the craziness of the season & then ending w/the World Series. It's hard leaving those guys. Those r relationships & memories I'll have 4the rest of my life" Gerrit Cole: "I'm excited. I obviously can't thank the Pirates enough for the opportunity to play n the Big Leagues.I'm tremendously thankful for the Astros believing in my abilities, bringing me over to a club that's already won the World Series. It's a tremendous blessing" Gerrit Cole on George Springer, Alex Bregman & Lance McCullers Jr thrilled to hear the news:"It's a great feeling.A lot of humility. Those are great players. To receive some high praise from them is really tremendous.I couldn't be more excited to compliment such a great team"
Respect all around. Never understood where the "maybe his teammates didn't like him" thing came from around here yesterday.
God I remember that. Had a good talk with him too, at that old cocktail bar on San Felipe near the loop. Good times and we agreed to disagree, but he agreed on certain "fan-related" things. ETA: was it called the Roll-N? DBL ETA: Laura Reynolds looked good back then.
Yeah, hated and hated by his teammates. I'll be following and rooting for him for the rest of his career. Moran/Felix too. eta: and Pittsburgh is a great city. May have to go back whenever the Stros do.
Usually you don’t have all star players on a team tweeting and going crazy about a trade , knowing players got traded off of your own team.
When the perception in the locker room is that the trade made your team better, you'll usually have the players on the team talk about being happy about it. When the Rockets traded for CP3, the same thing happened despite guys that were well liked being traded away.
