The first reports from the Surgeon General's office came out in ~1963. My Dad quit right away. I'm not sure when the actual labels went on the cigarets.

That is just silly. You even admit he knew it was bad for him. Saying 'there is no evidence' is to get you off his back, not as a way of perpetuating his own denial.
