That’s why numbers sometimes cheat you. If you really watch the game, you know Capela was struggling when Looney was on the court.
Yup. Looney just destroyed Capela. Forget about stats, Looney just flat out out played Clint just like Clint flat out dominated Gobert and KTown. Don't need to look at stats.
Dude outplays some of the “top” centers in the league that make more than him but he hasn’t earned his money. Yeah ok. He’s doing what he’s supposed to. Up until the gs series he was fine. Some of y’all have the weirdest standards that are made up on the fly. The goal post continues to move. If you’re expecting Tyson to play big minutes at this stage boy are you going to be let down
He needs to improve and be better. You avoid the point and pick your own crazy disagreement. He’s a one trick pony and not worth his contract. We don’t ask him to dribble, pass or shoot...I think he has it good honestly. I guess you’re loving that new jumper!! GTFOH ! Also I said Tyson would “be big” , I said nothing about “big minutes “... ! Pay attention kid!!
You should be glad he isn’t a big that can shoot and handle the ball like a AD or embiid. If he was he’d be making double his salary. As if tilman would pay that. Sitting over here b****ing about a double double full time center and one of the better shot blocking bigs in the league at 25. Gtfoh with these wack standards. not worth his contract lmfao. boy does that list of centers making more than him look pretty silly
These young pups don't know the value of that drop step …. and post play in general is a lost art as the game and rules have changed so much to favor perimeter players.
Chandler has value as a mentor to Capela, especially on the defensive end. Chandler had 0 range at the start of his career too, could be a good pairing. Still think Capela should never not be working on a corner 3pt shot. Doubles his value, which is good for him and us. Might take years, but well worth it.
This is a kid that came into the league very raw and had minimal skills/weapons. What he's managed to put together (with help from MDA and Harden) has been pretty damn impressive. That being said, however, what if he's already peaked at age 25 in terms of what he can effectively add to his game? How many big men in the league actually go through a metamorphosis change 5-6 years into the league? I'd say it's not that common. What you can hope is that: 1. He gives you 70+ games a season 2. Plays about 30-33 minutes a night 3. Puts up 16/12 consistently 4. Plays above average defense That's it and it's not hard to ask considering he's done those 4 things at different points over the past 2 seasons. People wanting him to become Brook Lopez need to realize that Lopez actually had a jump shot coming out of college and he was always around 80% from the line.
This is who he is at this point: - elite roll man, although ironically Harrell eclipsed him last year - above average rim protector (again, ironically, Trez was better at opp FG% and other rim protection stats) - average rebounder - when faced against another good rebounder, he wilts - elite at finishing around the rim off pick and roll plays - mediocre at finishing around the rim in isolation - zero range - his jump shot form makes me cringe Most importantly - solid contract. He is still a valuable player on a good deal. We can sell high if it's not working for us.
Clint didn’t look as athletic last season . He has put on bulk , but is it at the expense of quickness and leaping ability ? Every 10 lbs is 10 lbs heavier you come down on your knees every time you jump . IMO our center spot was great in 16-17 and 17-18 .... the first year Clint was at his quickest but nene was there to deal with bigger centers . In 17-18 Clint took a step up defensively (look at his play in the first two series ) and was great at getting “hustle” baskets due to his speed and easy buckets from cp and hardens passing . Clint and James and Clint and Russ need to reform their PnR game to bring it up a notch . If the lob is the best weapon for Clint he should lose a few lbs to make him an easier leaper . We can outsource the job of guarding true 7 footers to Tyson or hartenstein .... keep in mind this is more of a change up than our primary option .... Clint is going to be able to outrun a bigger C a good portion of the time and combined with our “changeup” wear them down over the course of the game No matter how great a system you run , at the end of the day you are going to have to find ways to match up (hopefully to your advantage ) teams are gonna have a hard enough time with James and Russ we just need to add one more dynamic option to our scheme . Clint shooting jumpers can be nice in theory but I’d rather see him expand his game by adding a dribble move from around the paint if we can’t lob it to him ... we should at least be able to drop off in space . Here , I think quickness helps more than bulk .
He also broke his leg midway through the season and had a serous viral infection during the Utah Series. Let’s see how 2019 goes. I’d bet Capela will be fine and his contract amid an increasing cap is also fine. I would love to have KAT or AD... but Capela is fine.
I really don't want to face utah in the playoffs anymore. Something about that town and their fans give me the heegee beegees.. anyone else notice how someone from the other team always gets a "viral infection" or sick after visiting Utah.
Agreed . He had several external events that no-doubt impacted his athleticism . Hopefully he can stay healthy and show a more agile form for the entire season (and more importantly , the playoffs)
