Any old peeps miss the Taco Bell of the 70’s and 80’s?

I can be a bit of a food snob, but I grew up eating Taco Bell in a household that didn’t have a lot of disposable income. It was a treat for me, and it was cheap enough to have once or twice a week. They’ve stopped making all my favorite things, so I rarely go there now. When I do, it’s always a reminder of why I don’t go. The few things I will eat (bean burritos and crunchy tacos) are a tiny and horrid version of what they used to be. Enter Taco Casa……who has apparently been around since the early 70’s. Their whole Schtick is trying to duplicate the circa 1970-1980 Taco Bell menu. They have their versions of the taco light (nothing light about it….fried flour tortilla) , enchirito, beefy tostado, spicy green sauce bean burritos, and other things. They even make them bigger like Taco Bell used to do. And everything comes like you ordered it with triple extra cheese. Of course, they can’t nail the exact taste, but damn….it was pretty good in a nostalgia kinda way. If you miss old Taco Bell, I’d HIGHLY recommend you give it a try. We only have one in our area, and it’s forty minutes away, but our electricity is out, we wanted to charge devices in the car, so we made the trek. Some of you guys may have one closer.

They got rid of the meximelt which was my introduction to Taco Bell way back when. Was always one of my favorites.

The Pizzazz Pizza aka Mexican Pizza is set to return Oct 5th think I might actually give a Taco Bell another go. It’s only been 7 years since I last tried them.

Used to love to put pennies in their extra hot taco sauce and watch them come out shiny

Taco bell in the 80s and 90s was much better than now. Tacos for 39 cents. If jack in the box can keep their tacos a 2 for .99 then taco bell should be ashamed to charge 1.29 for the tiny thing they give out now. I used to eat 12 tacos for about 5 bucks at taco bell. I spent 22 bucks at taco bell last year and didnt even get full. Now I just find a taqueria.

As a fan of authentic Mexican cuisine, I'm still a big supporter of Taco Bell.

The Two Pesos at Westheimer and Nantucket.

That was fun High School times.

eta: also right around there was the Reggae Cafe, and the best General Joe's (Mongolian BBQ cooked to order)

I was thinking the Two Pesos at Bellaire & Hillcroft.

First off, they had fantastic Hot Wings. Secondly, the food was just better. Taco Cabana had to sue them out of business. And Two Pesos had to have some really shitty lawyers because... Look at the Showbiz Pizza v Chuck E Cheese lawsuit.

    We weren't Bellaire people.

Two Pesos was vastly superior to Taco Cabana. Bummer how that worked out.

Do I ever. Woke up at a strangers couch after going to a club in the early 90s. Saw this girl lying next to this other guy in a thong hanging out of her shorts. We all woke up and everyone left except the two of us. She puts on a lime green bikini and we hang out at the pool and eventually go to the Miami Subs which IIRC was at Westheimer & Wilcrest. Get back to the place and we start petting this Chow Dog. It was obvious I could make a move but I didn't because I had zero idea whose apartment we were in and was worried other guys would show up!

We met a few months later and she said she was digging me then. Not sure why I didn't take advantage then, either.

One of those girls that got away.

As far as Miami Subs? Total Meh.
