Another Spinal Tap movie is in the works

This is Spinal Tap is of the greatest movies of all time, and just in time for its 40th anniversary, we are getting a sequel. Rob Reiner, Harry Shearer, Michael McKean, and Christopher Guest are all on board for the rock band's next adventure.

    Variety:

A sequel is in the works to the 1984 rock mockumentary "This Is Spinal Tap," with director Rob Reiner returning alongside stars Michael McKean, Christopher Guest and Harry Shearer.

The movie package will launch sales at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival. It will be released on March, 19 2024, tied to the 40th anniversary of the original. The sequel will be in the style of Martin Scorsese's "The Last Waltz," the legendary concert documentary that followed the farewell tour of the Canadian American rock group The Band. "Spinal Tap 2" will also feature real-life musicians in the film. No names have been revealed yet, but it will likely depend on the artists' touring schedules.

I hope they have a lot of references to The Last Waltz. Can't wait to see the size of the coke rock they glue to Michael McKean's nostril.

    This is awesome!

Can we start quoting the movie now? I'll start. (no referencing the amp going to 11...too easy)

"So when you're playing, you feel like a preserved moose onstage?"

"The Boston gig has been canceled… Yeah. I wouldn’t worry about it though, it’s not a big college town."

Really hope the sequel is worthwhile, the original is still great......

It's *so* black, it's like "how much more black could this be?" The answer is none...none more black.

Have a good time...All the time... That's my philosophy, Marty.

Q: Can you play a bass line like Nigel used to on "Big Bottom"? Can you double that? You might recall the line's in fifths.

A: Oh yeah, I've got two hands here.

The original is my favorite movie of all time. I was worried that a sequel might tarnish it or not live up or just disappoint. However, reading the premise for what they have now, I believe it has a decent chance to be really good.

I have hope knowing it will be the original cast. This comedy crew rarely disappoints.

Hopefully they can find something for Jane Lynch as well. And tell her to just improv like they all do.

Paul McCartney, Elton John, & Garth Brooks Will Appear In This Is Spinal Tap Sequel

    https://www.stereogum.com/2243848/p...WhcQKxCh6cEEf7TkguV0dTADLW_V-m3kYssElw-fJx9lk

    excerpt:

Last year, director Rob Reiner revealed that he was working on a sequel for his 1984 film This Is Spinal Tap, known for pioneering the mockumentary genre. Yesterday, on Richard Herring’s RHLSTP podcast, he shared that Paul McCartney, Elton John, and Garth Brooks will make appearances.

Reiner said production begins in February. The fictional metal band will still be played by Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer. It will have his character — filmmaker Marty DiBergi — shooting a second documentary of the band in a bid for redemption.

If it's saturated with guest stars it could be better than the OG.
