Why should tax payers have to pay for metal detectors? Why not have the gun owners and manufactures pay for them. If people want to keep their guns then let them pay for a surcharge(tax) on their guns. Also while we are at it have them require liability insurance for their guns while we are at it too.

This happened in Texas. If only @Bobbythegreat was there to stop the attacker.

Yeah, let's have metal detectors at all schools; let us also have airport security with guards and the scanners etc. Kids should get to school one hour early to pass through the screening.

Anything to distract from the need to restrict the gun industry.

    Thanks, Sylvester.
The industry should have to pay for all the needless deaths and totally or partially disabled they cause.

Entrance door locks would help, but someone who knows the protocol could easily plan around it. It'd just be an inconvenience. I don't think that's a solution to the problem.

The door bs from that politician is a terrible idea, it would play into the hands of an attacker. Imagine school ending, every student stuffed into the exit corridor and someone using a firearm at that point. Would be just like in those club shootings where ppl are packed and the easiest targets.

It's not just that. That's a horrible idea. Dan Patrick is constantly embarrassing himself and Texas with his idiotic ideas.

I've been to schools that locked every entrance and required to buzz you in. A weapon can be concealed enough to get you in the door.

I remember my school electronically locked every door except during period changes as students had to travel between buildings. An armed gunman would just wait until that changeover happens to enter the school.

Bringing up door locks and metal detectors as barriers to armed gunmen is security theater. An armed gunman can plan around that and still enter the school by force.

We need stricter gun control/reform laws. The fact that this is a 2nd amendment right written when we were a young nation is a travesty for all modern americans.

    Hannitys solution is great.

This isn’t about guns it’s about social media! The authorities need to monitor all social media posting by teenagers!

    Lol!

I'm not against some regulation... but this guy used a shotgun and a revolver. None of the bans called for by democrats would have done squat to stop this and good ole Joe Biden said use the shotgun for home defense. It's all you need.....

If you are going to come to the table with ban all guns you might as well just throw a fit in the hall and leave.

Guns are too much a part of American culture to ban them all. I think we all know we can't stop 100% of attacks. We do have to work to save as many lives as we can.

There are many things that can be done besides banning all guns. For example, the vast majority of Americans support longer wait periods and national registry. These can be done right away... except the NRA and the NRA-supported republicans oppose even these reasonable solutions.

As if those are the only solutions. And as if DEM are the only one capable of proposing solutions.

A simple question that need to be asked is could have the guns been restricted at home? What policy would motivate gun owners to safe guard their guns. Too often, guns are lost, stolen or just simply easily obtainable by those that shouldn't have access.

Sure, right to privacy <<<< right to guns.

But hey, maybe we should have live monitoring. We already have cameras on campus. Expand them to cover perimeter, on campus with computer alg to detect weapon. Add thermal camera for detection of hidden weapon. No idea of the costs, but if feasible, that could give school the extra warning it needs to prevent or reduce # of dead.

I will say this about Trump that has me a bit optimistic.

Say what you want about the guy (I do all the time) but he really does have a good sense of what current issue has hold of the public and isn’t as dumb as his GOP counterparts to just continue to ignore it.

Only problem is Trump is trying to have it both ways thus far where he reacts with listening sessions with parents and kids that are victims but the solution thus far has always been to the benefit of the gun lobby (hence let’s arm teachers etc).

Where I’m optimistic is Trump’s insistence to try and ride a wave of public outcry will keep this issue alive and expose what the right is doing to essentially sell more guns and put more lives at risk. I honestly feel like some big changes are coming ... maybe not until next year legislatively but they are coming partly because Trump will keep this alive because he wants more than anything to be popular.

Camping a choke point (like a single exit) works a LOT.

Guess the "need less door" idea failed, so...
